Our Mission

About Us Massachusetts Peace Action is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization working to develop the sustained political power to foster a more just and peaceful U.S. foreign policy. Through grassroots organizing, policy advocacy, and community education, we promote human rights and global cooperation, seek an end to war and the spread of nuclear weapons, and support budget priorities that re-direct excessive military spending to meeting human and environmental needs in our communities.  We are an affiliate of Peace Action, the nation’s largest grassroots peace and disarmament membership organization, with more than 100,000 members and 30 chapters across the country. What We Do Mobilize our members to become active advocates for peace and justice issues with their elected officials and within their communities Organize events to educate the public  on issues of peace and disarmament Make peace a priority in all elections at all levels by educating voters and candidates on just and peaceful foreign policy options History Peace Action, of which Mass Peace Action is a statewide affiliate, began over 50 years ago as SANE and FREEZE, two separate organizations that successfully addressed the nuclear threat.  SANE and FREEZE merged in 1987, and in 1993 the organization changed its name to Peace Action. Peace Action: Past, Present, and Future(https://salsa.democracyinaction.org/o/161/t/288/shop/item.jsp?storefront_KEY=257&t=&store_item_KEY=895) , was published on the organization’s 50th anniversary.  A timeline(http://www.peace-action.org/timeline)  and more information on Peace Action’s history(http://peace-action.org/history)  are available at their website. Massachusetts Peace Action began in the 1980s as Mass Freeze, an affiliate of the nationwide Nuclear Weapons Freeze Campaign.  In the late 1980s, Mass Freeze joined the national Freeze Campaign in its merger with national SANE: The Committee for a Sane Nuclear Policy.  In 1993, we became Massachusetts Peace Action.    Since then, we have continued our disarmament work while broadening our focus to include advocating for nonmilitary solutions to international issues, educating voters on peace issues, and more.
