Our mission is to provide support and financial assistance to families with critically-ill newborns in the neonatal intensive care unit; and to enhance the well-being of women, children and their families through education, prevention and medical care. Miracle Babies’ overarching goals are to: improve the health of all children, especially the vulnerable; reduce the number of babies in the NICU; drive families and communities to become healthier; reduce childhood obesity and adult-onset chronic diseases; and reduce the cost of healthcare. We accomplish these goals by focusing on critical life stage windows where effective and targeted interventions can directly improve children’s and mothers’ long-term health: during pregnancy and the newborn period. Research clearly links the health of a mother to the future health of her baby, and a NICU baby’s access to breast milk and kangaroo care to improved health. By providing key resources to those who need them most—underserved pregnant mothers facing substantial barriers to health and babies in the NICU fighting for their lives—our organization plays a key role in improving children’s and community health.
