Pledge to make a difference, together.
Nakai Theatre, based in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, Canada, is a non-profit professional theatre company dedicated to helping local playwrights get their plays to the stage. We offer a 24hr Playwriting Competition to get them started; a Homegrown Theatre Festival to help them produce selections of their plays; script development workshops and dramaturgy; and the opportunity to present their work at our national and international Pivot Theatre Festival. Finally, we take the most promising scripts and mount full productions.
Many of our productions deal with significant social and health issues in Northern Canada: Alzheimer's disease, homelessness, poverty, alcohol addiction and cancer.
In our 32 year history (1979 to 2011) we have brought over 50 Yukon scripts to the stage. Nakai Theatre is a member of the Professional Association of Canadian Theatres, and is supported by the Canada Council for the Arts. We are a registered charity.
