Education Beyond Borders

Education Beyond Borders (formerly Teachers Without Borders - Canada), incorporated in 2007, is devoted to closing the education divide through teacher professional development and community education. EBB is supported entirely by individual donors and corporate/foundation grants. We work primarily, but not exclusively, in developing countries, to build self-reliance, health, and capacity. We seek to empower by developing and implementing seminars and workshops that are consistent with best educational practices and sensitive to the host country’s curricula. With the help of technology, EBB will also create a network of teachers and their peers from various countries to collaborate on lessons that would allow their students to work together on topics of global importance and relevance. We seek to create sustainable relationships that will enhance our own classrooms by infusing our curriculum with global experiences and cultures through joint student projects.

EDUCATION WITHOUT BOUNDARIES

WHO WE HELP...African children, especially orphans by providing curriculum and supplies and assisting African teachers. Many governments are overwhelmed by their national needs. In some countries, local groups organise schools with whatever limited resources they have available. By partnerships with national NGO’s (Non-Governmental Organizations), we transfer donor funds and materials to meet local educational needs. WHERE WE HELP...Since 1997 our focus has been in Zambia in south-central Africa, In 2003 Malawi also began receiving assistance, as well. Since 2000 more than 20,000 African students and their communities benefitted through EWB offices in Zambia. HOW WE HELP... We organize gifts of supplies and quality curriculum with a character-building focus. ...Pupil books for the primary curriculum are printed in Zambia. ...We provide annual teacher training, and small honoraria to supplement low wages paid by parents through school committees.

Youth Education Farms

YEF will finance education using profits from YEF operated farms. Profits will be used to fund elementary and high school tuition fees for orphans. Tuition fees directed towards a particular student are dependent upon that student’s participation in the program, and will be paid at the beginning of each semester. Each YEF student will be required to maintain a pre-determined level of academic achievement as outlined by the YEF board of directors. Beyond this, students will be expected throughout their tenure in our program to attend once weekly a YEF designed educational course taught at their attending school teaching career planning, basic business skills and community development. The purpose of the YEF educational course is to allow students to learn the steps needed to achieve their dreams following their completion of high school, while ingraining the importance of contributing to the development of their own community in their adult years.
