SALTS SAIL AND LIFE TRAINING SOCIETY

The Sail and Life Training Society (SALTS) was founded in 1974 and is a registered charity in both Canada and the USA. The Society operates two tall ships, the Pacific Grace and Pacific Swift, and offers sail training to young people ages 13-27 (as well as Day Sails for all ages). These ships are maintained at the SALTS Heritage Shipyard at 203 Harbour Road, Victoria BC. Each year, 1700 young people have the life changing experience of learning to sail a tall ship with SALTS. Voyages take them to the Gulf Islands of BC each spring and fall, and in the summer the ships circumnavigate Vancouver Island. Every few years SALTS conducts an offshore voyage to ports around the world. Young people from all socio-economic backgrounds participate, and a bursary program covers costs for those who cannot afford to pay. SALTS partners with numerous other youth organizations to provide bursaries to youth who are at-risk, from low income households, or from challenging life situations.

Funded in part by the Ministry of Agriculture, we investigate and resolve reports of animal cruelty throughout the province. Our Animal Protection Officers provide guidance and education on responsible animal husbandry practices for both pets and livestock. The Saskatchewan SPCA operates with the support of our members, donors and volunteers, as well as the many concerned citizens who report suspected animal abuse and neglect.

SASKATOON SUMMER PLAYERS

Saskatoon Summer Players began as a group of dedicated amateurs working out of Knox United Church who mounted their first production, “Oklahoma”, in 1964. SSP has presented one “main-stage” musical in late June/early July every year since then, from time to time has produced a second smaller show, and since 2003 has also produced a series of reviews, the “Broadway Bash”, each February. SSP has always drawn on the considerable talents of amateur on-stage performers and off-stage volunteers from the community. All concerned have taken considerable pride in mounting shows of high quality and of professional standard.
