Founded in 1968, we are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to promote thought-provoking documentary film and media for learning about the people and cultures of the world.

NONPROFIT FOUNDATION CREATED TO SUPPORT AND FURTHER THE EDUCATIONAL, CHARITABLE AND PUBLIC PURPOSES AND ACTIVITIES OF THE KENTUCKY AUTHORITY FOR EDUCATIONAL TELEVISION. PRIMARY PURPOSE IS TO RECEIVE, HOLD AND ADMINISTER GRANTS IN THE NAME OF THE AUTHORITY.

WETA's mission is to produce and broadcast programs of intellectual integrity and cultural merit that recognize viewers' and listeners' intelligence, curiosity and interest in the world around them. As an independent and not-for-profit public broadcaster and producer, WETA provides its viewers and listeners with quality, compelling programs and serves a broad community with educational projects and Web-based initiatives.
