Women's Shelters Canada / Hébergement femmes Canada

The Canadian Network of Women’s Shelters & Transition Houses is a national network united to end violence against women. The members of the Network are Canada’s provincial/territorial and regional sheltering organizations, who have a collective membership of over 350 emergency and second stage shelters for abused women and their children in Canada. Each member has appointed a representative to participate in the Network Board of Directors. The goal of the Network is to assist shelter organizations to share best practices in order to make new advances in the development of high quality services, to establish a strong national voice so that shelters will be able to act together to identify and address common issues and goals, and to ensure that our agenda is well-represented at the national level.

North Point Douglas Women's Centre Inc.

North Point Douglas Women's Centre is a community based centre in one of Canada's poorest urban areas. We provide a drop-in six days a week, responding to basic needs (safety, food security, phone, donations, computers, information, counseling), and seek to support and empower women and their children as they address issues in their lives. During limited hours some resources are offered to community men. Programming responds to needs identified by the community with special foci on health and safety. Health programming includes information and programs encouraging healthy food, increased physical activity and building strong relationships within families and between neighbours. Safety work includes youth outreach, crime reduction planning, community based activities for children and youth (community gardening, odd jobs for youth, walking school bus) and activities that build community engagement (Austin Street Festival, Dreamcatchers--an adaptation of Citizens on Patrol Program).
