We assist women over 16 who are survivors of sexual assault and sexual abuse, past and present, by providing support, advocacy, counseling and information, referrals and education. Public Education & Outreach Program supports community and corporate organizations , and high school students (male and female) with issues around sexual violence, sexual harassment, healthy dating relationship and coming out issues.
New Life Girls’ Home offers a residential program for young women aged 18-30 years old, who have life controlling problems such as drug/alcohol addiction, sexual abuse, eating disorders, self-abuse and other compulsive behaviours. Focusing on loving, Christ-centred nurturing, students in the program are offered intensive Christian education, one-on-one Biblical discipleship, life-skills training, and ministry opportunities. New Life Girls’ Home is a Christian ministry and is registered as a non-profit charity. We do not receive any government funding and rely totally on individuals, groups and churches to support us. Our vision includes women having hope and strength while living out equal social, economic and political rights. Our programs assist community women in the areas of housing, economic security, safety, community involvement, skill building and child minding.
Wen-Do Women's Self Defence is a program designed for women and girls. The physical and verbal skills are easy to use and easy to remember. Women and girls learn to protect themselves in a wide range of situations. Courses are open to all women, including women with disabilities, older women, young women, women of colour, lesbians and women of all financial means. Wen-Do believes in giving women and girls choices, alternatives to being victims. We recognize that women have a wealth of experience and information. We reinforce the positive aspects of the way in which women are currently dealing with the threat and fear of violence in our lives. We do not issue a list of do's and don'ts, but share information to encourage self trust and success.
The purposes of the society are: To promote the equal status of women. To educate the community on women's issues. To collect and disseminate information for use by the community and women's groups. To develop new programs and services for women in the community. To provide a shelter for abused women and their children.
