On December 16, 1955, a group of dedicated parents founded what is now called Community Living Victoria. Today, as the largest non-profit community living service provider on Vancouver Island, Community Living Victoria provides a range of support services to children and adults with developmental disabilities and their families. Our work is guided by our values, experience and history and draws from strong roots in the community. Community Living Victoria recognizes the rights of everyone to have a full range of life choices, including access to education, affordable and appropriate housing, leisure options, gainful employment and participation in the community. A healthy community encourages the involvement of everyone.

The Independent Living Movement is founded on the rights of people with disabilities to: > Live with dignity in their chosen communities. > Participate in all aspects of their lives. > Control and make decisions about their own lives. Canadians with disabilities have skills, determination, creativity and a passion for life. They want to contribute to the economic, political and cultural life of their communities. However barriers still exist, old attitudes, outdated laws and inflexible approaches. We have a compelling vision of a Canada that is able to tap into this incredible resource. Benefits of Therapeutic Riding The rhythmic side-to-side, forward, and backward movement of the horse mimics the human gait, moving a rider's pelvis and torso in the same motion as walking. This stimulation gently relaxes taught muscles and improves core strength, balance, and coordination. Learning new routines, sequencing, and accessing short-term memory skills assist individuals who otherwise may experience difficulty with these tasks. The real success of therapeutic riding comes from most riders being highly motivated to learn new skills, simply because they genuinely enjoy riding!

We provide outsourcing services to charities and non-profits. We provide the services charities normally seek out in the private sector for a lower rate. We understand the nature and operations of charities unlike many businesses. We can provide expert value-added services such as accounting, bookkeeping, human resources, management, fundraising, communications, and technical support. We target grassroots groups who seldom have the in-house expertise to deliver their programs effectively and efficiently. When an organization becomes effective and efficient, the donation dollar goes much farther in the community it serves.
