SWIFT is a peer support group program that utilizes concepts and philosphies based on the teachings of Adler & Perls. We utilize positive peer techniques to effect change and use the model of a modified 'Hot Seat' system to challenge participants' faulty perceptions which may be causing their ongoing issues. Participation in the hot seat segment is voluntary although most are very keen to take part in this exciting model. Our groups are ongoing throughout the year. However, we close annually for three weeks over Christmas and New year. We have a continuous intake and no person is refused help unless the Director feels that individual would be inappropriate for our program for reasons of security or confidentiality. Many stay with the program once they are feeling better, in order to give back to their peers the help and support that they received. HIAS stands for a world in which refugees find welcome, safety, and freedom. We rescue people whose lives are in danger for being who they are. We protect the most vulnerable refugees, helping them build new lives and reuniting them with their families in safety and freedom. We advocate for the protection of refugees and assure that displaced people are treated with the dignity they deserve. Guided by our Jewish values and history, we bring more than 130 years of expertise to our work with refugees.
The Resurrection Recovery Resource Society, dba Freedom's Door, is a recovery home for men who are homeless and addicted to drugs and alcohol. Many men who come into our program have lived in back alleys or jails and were entirely controlled by their addictions. Many of these men suffer from mental health issues. We offer them hope, healing and wholeness to help them recover from their addictions so that they may live productive lives in the community. Our program is extremely successful and has helped many men who are seeking recovery from their addictions. Men come to our program from all over the Province of British Columbia. Our program takes months to complete and is based upon the 12 Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous.
