LIFE Recovery Association

L.I.F.E. Recovery is an acronym for ‘Living In Freedom Everyday’. This facility begins by looking at the causes – the roots – of addiction: the heart. It begins with the understanding that addicts are caught in the grip of an overwhelming compulsion and that only with God’s power and their own will can they be set free. Life Recovery, a charitable, non-denominational, women only facility, takes a positive and holistic approach to overcoming an array of addictions. As a registered charity, the organization depends heavily on sponsorships and donations to carry out its programs. By means of recognized programs, such as Alcoholics- and Narcotics Anonymous, as well as, a comprehensive Life Skills program and intense group and one-on-one Christian counseling, L.I.F.E Recovery hopes to rehabilitate the whole person – spirit, soul and body.

Science for Peace (SfP)

The day-to-day activities of Science for Peace occur through members' participation in Working Groups. These grassroots activities range from research, compiling reports, and generating educational materials to interacting with communities, governmental agencies, and elected officials. Furthermore, SfP is engaged in a number of new and continuing projects: the 'Global Issues Project' studies current threats to global stability arising from the rapid consumption of key resources and considers strategies for managing the anticipated shortages; and 'Freedom for Research' project studies the influence of businesses, governments and the military on the mission and conduct of the University. Science for Peace also holds regular forums and workshops on a variety of topics for public education and debate.

CITYREACH CARE SOCIETY

CityReach Care Society offers a range of programs and activities focused on serving the tangible needs of the community(such as our Food for Families, Club Freedom and Out of School Care programs)as well as providing opportunity for personal growth and development. We realize that our community faces some challenging circumstances around the issue of poverty, however, we believe that the human spirit is tenacious and with the right encouragement and support, families can move beyond poverty into a place of prosperity. The dictionary definition of "prosper" is to render successful, to thrive, to make gain, to grow, to increase, to make steady progress, to flourish-essentially it is the opposite of poverty and we are passionately committed to providing programs and activities that will help families and individuals in our community prosper in all areas of life.

Village of Hope Inc.

The Village of Hope is a ten month in residence Christian Drug and Alcohol regeneration program for men located in Northern Estonia and Eastern Canada. From our experience we have come to believe that the only way to freedom from addiction is through a desire to be free and a personal relationship with the Lord. Being a Christ centered recovery program is distinctly different than secular approaches. The skills learned from the scientific community are definitely present in the program but the main focus is a man’s relationship with God and his need for reconciliation and spiritual healing. The Village of Hope program offers long-term residential treatment to substance abuse addicts, which is divided into distinct levels which a man moves through in block movements. Alongside the program is the Recovery church that the men are also required to attend and actively participate.

BRITISH COLUMBIA MOBILITY OPPORTUNITIES SOCIETY

Since 1985, BCMOS has been working to expand the boundaries of accessibility for people with significant disabilities. Former Mayor of Vancouver Sam Sullivan, who became quadriplegic as a result of a skiing accident at age 19, founded BCMOS along with a group of friends with disabilities. Their desire to revisit wilderness areas that were so important to them when they could walk and hike motivated them to find ways to get back the freedom and inspiration of being in the great outdoors. Participants with disabilities are able to explore the wonders of the natural environment aboard the TrailRider multi-terrain wheelchair. Designed by BCMOS, the TrailRider is an environmentally sensitive method of transportation powered by two or more volunteers. BCMOS offers many ongoing activities throughout the year, including daily hiking programs, theme hikes, Kids’ Adventure Days, and Access Challenge, our annual wilderness expedition.

CHRYSALIS SOCIETY

Since 1988, Chrysalis has assisted over two thousand women to achieve empowered freedoms from addiction, violence & poverty. Our organization and programs are based on a feminist, client-centered philosophy that inherently recognizes the complex interdependence between women’s experiences of addiction, violence, abuse, exploitation, poverty and homelessness – as well as the larger social culture and systems through which women are further pathologized, medicated and/or oppressed. The comprehensive post-detox continuum of care Chrysalis Society provides (1st-stage post-detox stabilization, 2nd-stage semi-independence, and a housing subsidy program)remains the lowest-barriered resource for women in the region, and is accessible to many of our province's most marginalized women. As a result of multiple barriers relating to concurrent mental health and/or medications, many of the women we serve would otherwise have no access residential care and supports.
