The Alberta Arbitration and Mediation Society (AAMS) is a not-for-profit organization that has been in existence since 1982, helping more than 450 members engaged in the practice of arbitration and mediation throughout Alberta. AAMS provides lists of quality arbitrators and mediators. It also provides instruction and assistance to organizations with creating dispute prevention and resolution systems. All AAMS mediators and arbitrators have met minimum standards of training and experience and adhere to a strict code of ethics. The Alberta Arbitration and Mediation Society is the largest and most vigorous provincial affiliate of the ADR Institute of Canada, Inc. and retains jurisdictional responsibility for recommending candidates to the national organization for the professional designations of Chartered Arbitrator (C. Arb.), Chartered Mediator (C. Med.) and Qualified Mediator (Q. Med.).

FESA focuses on learners with the lowest levels of literacy and education. We partner with over 35 social agencies and organizations that host our programs and invite clients to our free educational sessions. We are able to target vulnerable learners facing challenges that include poverty, family violence, low-literacy, single-parenting, lack of English skills, lack of support systems, unemployment, learning disabilities, and addictions. We specialize in building confidence and overcoming barriers that prevent people from moving forward with their education. Our programs: -are adapted to reflect cross-cultural approaches and are culturally sensitive, -build parents’ literacy and learning, -help parents gain strategies to build their children’s reading and writing skills, -prepare children for school.

Water School empowers communities through a 3-Step program, which integrates sanitation and hygiene education with a simple and sustainable water treatment technology called Solar Disinfection (SODIS). With this process, water from the local supply is placed in clear plastic bottles and set in the sun where ultraviolet rays disinfect the water. Hours later, that dirty water is now clean and safe to drink. It’s that simple. Water School goes beyond SODIS and works with schools to teach students sanitation & hygiene basics such as hand-washing and the importance of using latrines. The Peterborough County-City Health Unit (PCCHU) is constantly working toward its vision of "healthy people in healthy communities." PCCHU takes a comprehensive approach to health promotion and protection activities by: carrying out population health surveillance; increasing public awareness; providing educational opportunities; facilitating supportive environments; and advocating for the development of healthy public policy. As an Ontario Public Health Unit, PCCHU is mandated by the province of Ontario and the Ontario Public Health Standards, 2008, to provide programming related to family health, chronic disease and injury prevention, environmental health, infectious diseases, and emergency preparedness. PCCHU puts a strong emphasis on meeting specific local needs in these areas and is deeply committed to addressing the social determinants of health in our communities.

Since 1988, H.E.A.R., Hearing Education and Awareness For Rockers, mission is dedicated to the prevention of hearing loss and tinnitus. We cater particularly to the population most vulnerable to potential noise induced hearing loss ––young music lovers, musicians, DJs and their audiences and others in the music and entertainment industry––but extend our education, awareness, and advocacy to people from all walks of life. In addition to awareness, education and advocacy work, we provide music-hearing services in San Francisco and a directory of partners for other locales. In everything that we do, we strive to ensure that hearing conservation becomes part of every music education and music lifestyle. H.E.A.R. wants you and your loved ones to enjoy music, and the pleasure of hearing, for a long, long time.

PUENTE’s mission is stated within its name: People United to Enrich the Neighborhood Through Education. “Puente” is also the Spanish word for “bridge.” Since 1985, the organization has offered a bridge to opportunity by addressing barriers preventing individuals in its at-risk neighborhoods from building strong educational foundations and achieving financial self-sufficiency. PUENTE provides California Standards-aligned classroom instruction to more than 4,100 children, youth, and adults annually. Its tuition-free services address the needs of the entire family – enabling children to develop a life-long love of learning, helping parents to be their children’s first teachers, supporting youth as they move toward high school graduation, and assisting adults in need of English-language competency and workforce skills.

For 107 years, Aviva has flourished based on our ability to address our clients urgent needs and the most pervasive issues in our communities. We offer compassionate support, therapeutic services, and guidance to at-risk children and families.Aviva provides a continuum of care from prevention, to intervention, and intensive treatment to 3,000 children, impacting more than 6,400 clients’ family and household members annually. We are dedicated to improving children’s lives, creating cohesive families, resilient communities, and a more equitable society.

The Peterborough Humane Society, a registered charitable organization dependent on public donations, was established in 1941. As an Affiliated Society of the OSPCA, with the mandate to facilitate and provide for the prevention of cruelty to animals and their relief therefrom, our Humane Society offers a wide range of vital services to the community. Working in cooperation with many agencies and departments we continue promoting responsible pet ownership concepts through community outreach, one-on-one encounters with residents and the use of legal action as the last resort. Approximately 1,500 animals are received at the shelter each year, many of which are lost, injured or abandoned. While in our care they are provided with food, care, shelter and lots of love and attention. We speak for those who cannot speak for themselves. Artists in Healthcare, Manitoba (AIHM)believes that music and the arts are essential for a healthy life. We have a vision to integrate the arts, in all their forms to healthcare to benefit patients, families and staff. Research demonstrates that healing occurs best when the whole person; body, mind and spirit is engaged. Patients say the music provides an oasis from stress and anxiety, as evidenced by comments such as: " I just received a cancer diagnosis, but for the 10 minutes I was sitting here, listening to you play, I forgot." Our programming promotes healing and preventative health by reducing stress in chemotherapy treatment, palliative care, dialysis, geriatric rehab, and on units and waiting areas throughout the hospitals. We believe the universal language of art speaks powerfully in healthcare settings, and transforms the environment in unique and healing ways.

Parents as Teachers (PAT) works with parents to provide them with support and information on their developing child and to foster stong, nurturing relationships. Through regular personal home visits, parent group meetings, developmental screenings and connection to community resources the program: - increases parent knowledge of early childhood development and improves parenting practices - provides early detection of developmental delays and health issues - increases children's school readiness and school success - prevents child abuse and neglect The core values of the PAT model are that: - parents are their children's first and most influential teachers - the early years of a child's life are critical for optimal development and provide the foundation for success in school and life - research should be the foundation of parent education and family support services - an understanding and appreciation of the history and traditions of diverse cultures is essential

SAVAC (South Asian Visual Arts Centre) the only non-profit artist-run centre in Canada dedicated to the presentation and promotion of contemporary visual art by South Asian artists. SAVAC’s principal activities are to produce exhibitions, screenings, collaborative projects, artistic interventions, lectures, workshops and educational programs that showcase the range and diversity of work being produced by South Asian artists. SAVAC works without a gallery space, and typically in collaboration with other galleries and arts organizations. The collaborative process is important to SAVAC as it prevents our programs from becoming marginalized within the visual arts context. Collaboration is also a valuable process for us in terms of fostering strong relations with the mainstream visual arts community. SAVAC promotes the visual arts as an important means of developing cultural awareness, integration and understanding.
