SPEC has served children and families in the Brooks area since September 1978. Today, SPEC’s dedicated staff and volunteers continue to encourage growth and learning for all levels of the family unit, from newborns to adults. The difference staff and volunteers make is evident in the smiles on the faces of those served and the stories of those who return to provide updates on their successes and to extend their heartfelt thanks. SPEC programs celebrate multiculturalism and diversity, and are continuously growing to reach all children and their families. SPEC welcomes contributions, which help to maintain and enhance programs and services. Your contributions are integral in fostering brighter, healthier lives of children and families, by helping SPEC to provide them with the information and support that they need. Access Education - Guatemala Children's Fund provides funding for children to attend elementary school in the Village of La Union. La Union's children and parents are largely illiterate. The school has 800 children registered yet there are more than 2000 more children that don't attend. We are interested in empowering these children through education so they have more choices in their lives. Access Education provides the requisite uniform, books and the entrance fee. For $75.00 per year a child has the chance to be free and autonomous. Illiteracy makes everyone dependant on the few. Illiteracy is slavery. We want to change this 'One person at a time - One Village at a time.'

THE EDUCATION FOUNDATION OF OTTAWA is a registered non-profit charity that raises private funds to help students in need and at risk of school failure, attending schools in the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board. Children cannot learn if their basic needs are not met. Children come to school hungry every day. Many of our students face life challenges that place them at risk of school failure. Over 25% of Ottawa's children are living in poverty. We provide funding in emergency situations, for food and clothing, or medication, when a family is in financial crisis. The Foundation is managed by a volunteer Board of Directors made up of business, education and community leaders, and chaired by Mr. Jim Orban, Publisher of the Ottawa Citizen.
