Individual Freedom: The Fundamental Freedoms afforded to each and every Canadian by section two of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms (the Charter). These freedoms are paramount and embody the very values comprising our democratic society. They are: Freedom of Religion and Conscience Freedom of thought, belief, opinion and expression Freedom of Peaceful Assembly Freedom of Association Equality before the law: Section 15 of the Charter enumerates the human right held by each and every Canadian to be treated equally before and under the law, and to be afforded equal protection and benefit of the law without discrimination based on race, ancestry, ethnicity, age, gender or other such personal characteristics. This right holds each and every Canadian subject to the same laws, and ensures that no individual or group shall receive special legal privileges.

However a culture defines it, literacy touches every aspect of individual and community life. It is an essential foundation for learning through life and must be valued as a human right. Our primary program is a one-to-one tutoring program that matches trained volunteer tutors with adult learners, to help them meet their literacy goals. Advocacy: We provide direct assistance to individuals who have complaints or concerns about civil liberties violations by government, employers, etc. Common areas of work include police and privacy complaints, free speech and anti-oppression. Policy: We have played a major role in advocating for human rights legislation, police accountability reform, access-to-information and privacy legislation, while also resisting the more draconian anti-terrorism provisions. Litigation: When all else fails, the BCCLA will challenge laws in the courts. We have always fought to preserve freedom of expression in Canada through strategic litigation, such as opposing book bans. The Grand Manan Whale & Seabird Research Station (GMWSRS) is a registered charity incorporated in 1981 by its founder, the late Dr. David Gaskin. We are dedicated to research and education which promote conservation of the marine environment. Our researchers study seabirds and marine mammals in the lower Bay of Fundy; and develop & deliver education and stewardship programs through a natural history museum, invited lectures, publications, specific projects, a website and outdoor exhibits. The Canadian Constitution Foundation (CCF) acts as a voice for freedom in Canada’s courtrooms and law schools.
