Ladies' Turn is working at the grassroots level, organizing football matches in the hearts of Senegalese neighborhoods, to give Senegalese girls and women their turn to play. While football is extremely popular in Senegal, it is considered a men's sport, meaning that most girls do not have an opportunity to play. Girls also face disparities in the educational system: while primary education for girls in Senegal has made significant gains, most girls never complete secondary school. To change this reality, Ladies' Turn aims to: i.) Expand opportunities for girls to play soccer. ii.) Promote girl's education and personal development. iii.) Promote gender equality through soccer. By expanding opportunities for girls to play soccer, Ladies' Turn also seeks to promote gender equality and women's empowerment. By presenting women in roles as athletes, Ladies' Turn works to challenge traditional gender roles. Soccer also presents a unique opportunity to contribute positively to girls' self confidence and personal development. The players who participate in Ladies' Turn activities make lasting friendships and cultivate relationships with significant mentor figures such as coaches. In addition to soccer matches, Ladies' Turn is piloting activities to encourage girls to stay in school and promote sports and education. How To Save Millions Of Lives With A Simple MP3 Player The solar-powered device developed by URIDU is used to provide health education to illiterate rural women in developing countries Every six seconds a child under five dies. Almost all of those deaths occur in developing countries - and most of them are entirely preventable. Millions of lives could be saved just by providing illiterate rural mothers with accessible health education. Unfortunately, bringing this knowledge to remote locations has so far been an enormous challenge for both governments and NGOs. A new project is tackling that problem with a groundbreaking solution based on solar-powered MP3 players. The so-called MP3forLife Player has been developed by URIDU (www.uridu.org), a German non-profit social enterprise. Each player contains more than 400 carefully selected answers to questions about health, nutrition, family planning, child care, work safety and many more topics. All texts are translated with the help of more than 10.000 volunteers from over 100 countries who participate in a unique crowdsourcing effort. Once the information has been translated it is recorded by a native speaker of the target language. Local NGOs are taking care of distributing MP3forLife Players free of charge to women in need. We conceived the MP3forLife Player for small group listening - it fosters discussion, exchange and group building", explains Felicitas Heyne, psychologist and founder of URIDU. We want to provide basic knowledge to illiterate rural women, but we also want to create a team spirit among them. They are key to positive change in their countries. Outreach Uganda is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization headquartered in Colorado and dedicated to helping empower Ugandans, especially women and children, to rise out of poverty. To do this, we work with village groups in Uganda to bring hope and improve lives, especially in the areas of education, women's empowerment, and self-sufficiency through job creation. Initially, our village groups help support themselves and their families through sales of paper beaded jewelry and other craft items. The beaders save money from their bead sales so they can then start own group or individual businesses to supplement their income and eventually we hope it will be their main source of income. Micro-credit loans from their group's internal revolving loan fund provides additional help for the ladies to either start businesses or further expand their existing businesses to a level that will help them rise above poverty. As an organization, we emphasize to both our donors and our clients that we believe in truly empowering those we help. In everything we do, we seek to be a partner with those we serve so that they do not become dependent on us, and so that we do not take away their spirit of wanting to help themselves. We believe that income-generation of the women, and education of the children is the way that families can truly become empowered. But it is essential to take a holistic approach and focus on multiple areas, all of which impact the woman's income-generation potential. For instance, a woman must be relatively healthy to be a successful business owner. Therefore, we must also help a woman address issues of health. For many of our women in northern Uganda, agriculture and the raising of cash crops will be key to their income generation potential. Therefore, agricultural issues, water issues and even land access and rights become important areas to address.

Action for Mothers and Children (AMC) has been at the forefront of efforts to improve maternal and child health in Kosovo since 2009. It was founded initially under the name 'Foundation for Healthy Mothers and Babies' with the support of Dr. James Strickler, Emeritus Co-Chair, Board of Directors of the International Rescue Committee and Emeritus Dean at Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth University. Influential individuals from health, business, culture and economic sectors from Kosovo, U.S., and Diaspora (including among others Ardiana Bunjaku, Jehona Gjurgjeala, Rexhep Hoxha, Richard Lukaj, Bekim Ahmetaj, Ilirjana Bajraktari, George Little, Philip Sigwart, Ilir Hoxha and recently princess to be Elia Zaharia) joined the efforts to support the cause and grew the foundation into today's Action for Mothers and Children since 2013. Today's foundation is fully empowered and locally led by a devoted Board of Trustees and with the support from the Ministry of Health. AMC's Medical Advisory Committee comprises leading Kosovar medical professionals, and advises the Board of Trustees and staff on clinical, technical, policy, program and health system issues. AMC's goal to save the lives of children and mothers in Kosovo is realized through four program streams: 1) Education, 2) Supply, 3) Research, and 4) Advocacy. AMC has extensive experience in implementing similar projects funded by international agencies and foundations. AMC's long history of successful initiatives that address maternal and child health (MCH) issues, include the establishment of Women's Health Resource Centers in three cities, specifically in Prishtina, Mitrovica, and Ferizaj, Shterpce, and Kacanik totaling to five (5) WHRCs. These Centers have supported over 1,300 women since January 2015, educating them on their pregnancy, delivery and newborn care. The UCCK Women's Health Resource Center has direct access to women admitted to the hospital, either waiting to give birth or having recently given birth. This represents over 10,000 women each year from all over Kosovo, with approximately 50% from rural areas and those outside of Pristina (since UCCK is the country's only referral hospital). Of specific note, all women from Mitrovica come to UCCK for delivery since there is no local facility. Recognizing the value these Centers provide the local community, the Ministry of Health has stated it would like to see a Women's Health Resource Centers in each municipality. In response, AMC will seek to open further Centers, subject to funding, and will prioritize locations that have highly diverse and economically poor communities. Following the opening of Centers, AMC aims at building a system of continuous education and improvement of relations among patients and health care providers. In August 2016, AMC launched the online platform beba-ks, which is an online extension of the WHRCs, providing evidence based information on pregnancy, child care, difficulties encountered by new mothers and fathers, and many other important topics in three languages - Albanian, English, and Serbian. Additionally, AMC has been developing the new mobile app. which provides an easily accessible and user-friendly means for new mothers to access and obtain information on lectures schedules, read about various topics, and store information that is important during labor, i.e. contractions calculator. All activities are accompanied by continuous meetings of staff to share experiences, refresher trainings, as well as trainings for all new topics added to the classes' curricula. AMC works with national businesses (e.g. IPKO, Albi Group), international foundations (e.g. Americares, Direct Relief) and international corporations (e.g. Abbott Pharmaceuticals) to donate life-saving equipment to hospitals in Kosovo. AMC also works with international Universities and think-tanks (e.g. Dartmouth University, 700 for Science), global foundations (e.g. Solidar Suisse) and multilateral organizations (e.g. UNFPA, World Health Organization) on MCH research and advocacy programs. AMC is a registered not-for-profit organization (NGO) in Kosovo. Deloitte audits its financials annually. Our mission is: - To advocate vigorously for better healthcare for women and children throughout the Republic of Kosovo; - To study their health problems and health care systems that address these problems; - To develop programs and projects that will help to improve the health of women and children; - To accord high priority to those activities that will reduce Kosovo's relatively high maternal and infant mortality rates; - To collaborate with the Ministry of Health and other stakeholders that have similar goals and objectives.

Our mission is to foster the growth of women as leaders with strong sense of self and a will to serve others, whose presence in the community will be an example of virtue, values, ethics and spirituality. Our founding principles are based on the belief that communities need all citizens to be active and have a voice. Equality and equity across gender is important and lacking in many communities across Mexico, especially in rural areas. Leaders in communities need to have service to that community as a priority. We believe that everyone should have access to higher levels education despite barriers of poverty and location. We believe that a nurturing, protective and faith-filled environment helps people grow and we encourage women to participate in the faith organization of their choice finding common ground between faith groups. Our goal is to have more women to take on leadership roles in their communities and support them in fostering personal and economic development in their communities. There are many government programs for marginalized communities here in Mexico, but the communities are not well enough organized to take advantage of these opportunities and community leaders more often than not use these opportunities to their own advantage either to political or personal. If communities are better organized they can make better decisions for themselves. The base of this organization is personal development for the community members. Meeting the basic needs of community members is also vital to community growth, it is difficult to grow when all energy is focused on meeting basic needs of families.
