To improve the living standards of people living in remote Himalayan communities, by providing immediate support and empowering them. Action for Mothers and Children (AMC) has been at the forefront of efforts to improve maternal and child health in Kosovo since 2009. It was founded initially under the name 'Foundation for Healthy Mothers and Babies' with the support of Dr. James Strickler, Emeritus Co-Chair, Board of Directors of the International Rescue Committee and Emeritus Dean at Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth University. Influential individuals from health, business, culture and economic sectors from Kosovo, U.S., and Diaspora (including among others Ardiana Bunjaku, Jehona Gjurgjeala, Rexhep Hoxha, Richard Lukaj, Bekim Ahmetaj, Ilirjana Bajraktari, George Little, Philip Sigwart, Ilir Hoxha and recently princess to be Elia Zaharia) joined the efforts to support the cause and grew the foundation into today's Action for Mothers and Children since 2013. Today's foundation is fully empowered and locally led by a devoted Board of Trustees and with the support from the Ministry of Health. AMC's Medical Advisory Committee comprises leading Kosovar medical professionals, and advises the Board of Trustees and staff on clinical, technical, policy, program and health system issues. AMC's goal to save the lives of children and mothers in Kosovo is realized through four program streams: 1) Education, 2) Supply, 3) Research, and 4) Advocacy. AMC has extensive experience in implementing similar projects funded by international agencies and foundations. AMC's long history of successful initiatives that address maternal and child health (MCH) issues, include the establishment of Women's Health Resource Centers in three cities, specifically in Prishtina, Mitrovica, and Ferizaj, Shterpce, and Kacanik totaling to five (5) WHRCs. These Centers have supported over 1,300 women since January 2015, educating them on their pregnancy, delivery and newborn care. The UCCK Women's Health Resource Center has direct access to women admitted to the hospital, either waiting to give birth or having recently given birth. This represents over 10,000 women each year from all over Kosovo, with approximately 50% from rural areas and those outside of Pristina (since UCCK is the country's only referral hospital). Of specific note, all women from Mitrovica come to UCCK for delivery since there is no local facility. Recognizing the value these Centers provide the local community, the Ministry of Health has stated it would like to see a Women's Health Resource Centers in each municipality. In response, AMC will seek to open further Centers, subject to funding, and will prioritize locations that have highly diverse and economically poor communities. Following the opening of Centers, AMC aims at building a system of continuous education and improvement of relations among patients and health care providers. In August 2016, AMC launched the online platform beba-ks, which is an online extension of the WHRCs, providing evidence based information on pregnancy, child care, difficulties encountered by new mothers and fathers, and many other important topics in three languages - Albanian, English, and Serbian. Additionally, AMC has been developing the new mobile app. which provides an easily accessible and user-friendly means for new mothers to access and obtain information on lectures schedules, read about various topics, and store information that is important during labor, i.e. contractions calculator. All activities are accompanied by continuous meetings of staff to share experiences, refresher trainings, as well as trainings for all new topics added to the classes' curricula. AMC works with national businesses (e.g. IPKO, Albi Group), international foundations (e.g. Americares, Direct Relief) and international corporations (e.g. Abbott Pharmaceuticals) to donate life-saving equipment to hospitals in Kosovo. AMC also works with international Universities and think-tanks (e.g. Dartmouth University, 700 for Science), global foundations (e.g. Solidar Suisse) and multilateral organizations (e.g. UNFPA, World Health Organization) on MCH research and advocacy programs. AMC is a registered not-for-profit organization (NGO) in Kosovo. Deloitte audits its financials annually. Our mission is: - To advocate vigorously for better healthcare for women and children throughout the Republic of Kosovo; - To study their health problems and health care systems that address these problems; - To develop programs and projects that will help to improve the health of women and children; - To accord high priority to those activities that will reduce Kosovo's relatively high maternal and infant mortality rates; - To collaborate with the Ministry of Health and other stakeholders that have similar goals and objectives.

ASTRA is a local grass-root non-governmental organization dedicated to the eradication of all forms of trafficking in human beings, especially in women and children, as well as an efficient search for missing children and protection of children after they have been found, applying a comprehensive approach, with the aim of eliminating this specific form of violence by promoting a society free of all forms of exploitation, violence, discrimination and economic and social inequalities.

Les Puits du Desert was born from a life-changing experience. During a humanitarian raid in northern Niger, our founder, Christel Pernet, was forced to make an emergency landing in the desert. For four days, she lived alongside local nomadic families, sharing their daily life. She discovered what it truly means to live without access to water: children walking sometimes more than 20 kilometers every day to fetch it, schools that were rare and difficult to access, and women exhausted by the burden of survival. This human shock convinced her that urgent action was needed. In 2004, she founded Les Puits du Desert, in partnership with the Nigerien NGO Tidene, to respond to the essential needs expressed by the communities themselves: access to clean water, education, health, and women's empowerment. Since then, our association has been working in the Agadez region with an approach rooted in proximity, listening, and co-construction with local populations. The mission of Les Puits du Desert is to sustainably improve the living conditions of nomadic and rural populations in northern Niger, particularly in the Agadez region. These communities, mostly Tuareg, face some of the harshest living conditions in the world: - No clean water: women and children often walk hours under extreme heat to fetch unsafe water. - Food insecurity: desertification and climate change make traditional livelihoods increasingly fragile. - Limited access to health: villages are often days away from the nearest clinic. - Barriers to education: nomadic children, and especially girls, are rarely able to attend school. - Economic marginalization: women have few opportunities to earn an income or gain autonomy. We believe that water is the first step toward development. It is the foundation for health, education, food security, and economic empowerment. But beyond water, our mission is to accompany communities toward long-term resilience and dignity. Since 2004, Les Puits du Desert has worked in close and continuous partnership with Tidene, a Nigerien NGO founded the same year by leaders from the Agadez region. This partnership, in place since the very beginning, is one of the pillars of our credibility and effectiveness in the field. Tidene brings local legitimacy, field expertise, cultural understanding, and the capacity to mobilize communities even in the most remote areas. Les Puits du Desert ensures fundraising, technical and administrative support, and accountability to international partners and donors. Together, we form a strong binational alliance that combines local knowledge and international solidarity. Every project begins with listening carefully to the communities. Tidene's teams organize meetings with village chiefs, elders, women, and youth to identify priorities. Whether it is a well, a school, or a health center, the decision always comes from the people themselves. During implementation, communities are actively involved: - Villagers contribute to site preparation, transport of materials, and support to technicians. - Women are trained in gardening, food processing, and small equipment maintenance. - Local management committees are created to ensure long-term operation of wells, schools, or gardens. This participatory approach guarantees ownership and sustainability: when people help build an infrastructure, they also take responsibility for protecting it. Beyond infrastructures, we invest in training and empowerment so that projects endure: - Training water committees in maintenance and spare parts management. - Supporting teachers and parent associations to strengthen education. - Equipping health workers with skills and tools to improve healthcare. - Helping women's cooperatives develop business strategies and improve production techniques. Each project thus becomes more than a structure: it is a lever of resilience and autonomy for entire communities. Thanks to Tidene, we ensure that all our projects are adapted to the local context and respect cultural traditions: - Schools include boarding facilities so nomadic children can study. - Wells are strategically placed along pastoral transhumance routes. - Women's income-generating activities are designed to fit daily responsibilities while fostering empowerment. All decisions are taken jointly by Les Puits du Desert and Tidene. Projects are co-written, budgets reviewed together, and monitoring carried out both locally and internationally. This dual governance guarantees transparency for donors and coherence with the realities on the ground. We are convinced that sustainable development cannot be imported from outside; it must emerge from within communities themselves. In twenty years of action: - 345 wells and boreholes built, providing tens of thousands of people with clean water. - 13 schools constructed, offering an educational future to hundreds of children. - Health infrastructures established, improving access to care for isolated populations. -16+ women's cooperatives created, reinforcing women's role in the local economy and society. Our work is made possible thanks to the support of numerous individual donors, companies, foundations, and institutions in France and internationally. We maintain trusted relationships with our partners, based on financial transparency, regular reporting, and rigorous monitoring of impact. These partnerships are essential to transform ideas into lasting achievements. Founded in Slovakia in 2013, Aj Ty v IT (translated as You Too in IT) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to inspiring and supporting girls and women to explore and thrive in the world of information technology. Guided by our motto, "Technology has no gender," we aim to break down societal stereotypes and ensure women play an active role in shaping the technological future. Since our inception, over 55,000 girls and women have participated in our programs, which span community-building, education, and mentorship. For primary school girls (ages 8-14), we organize engaging workshops and hands-on activities in schools and communities to introduce young girls to the exciting world of IT. Using tools like MICRO:BIT, OZOBOTs, LEGO Robots, SCRATCH, and CANVA, we create a fun, creative environment that sparks interest in technology. These programs also aim to challenge and prevent stereotypes about technology being "just for boys". For high school students (ages 15-19), we offer specialized workshops, advanced courses, and career-focused activities that equip them with essential IT skills. These programs prepare them for the workforce of the future, opening doors to careers they might not have previously considered. Adult women (ages 19+) seeking personal growth or career transformation find opportunities through our comprehensive IT academies. We support upskilling for those advancing within their current fields and reskilling for those pursuing entirely new career paths in technology. Our community events and conferences foster meaningful connections, offering mentorship and networking opportunities. To ensure sustainable change, we empower teachers with the skills and tools to make IT education more inclusive for girls. Our training programs cover the latest technologies, including AI software, and provide access to free resources through our TECHLIB library, where educators can borrow hardware to enrich their classroom activities.
