Working in partnership with the Rwandan Ministry of Health, and the Rwanda Heart Foundation, TeamHeart will address the burden of cardiac disease: Through surgical development trips, TeamHeart will address the suffering of adolescents and young adults afflicted with advanced rheumatic heart disease in Rwanda with life saving surgical intervention. To work with the medical and nursing staff Rwanda to build a sustainable regional center of excellence in cardiac care. To increase the identification of disease though capacity building, provide appropriate post operative follow up care. To prevent advanced rheumatic heart disease through a combined effort of surveillance, prevention, education and early intervention as an example of effective countrywide intervention against rheumatic heart disease that can inspire replication in sub-Saharan Africa.

PAS Foundation comes into being in the year 2010 with the purpose of providing a solution that impacts in the abatement of the frequency of Child Sexual Abuse (CSA), through the strengthening of families, school communities, public and private organizations, as well as the business sector. With innovative models of information, education, communication and assistance, resulting in the protection of every child and teenager, their parents and tutors being both alert and capable to identify, guide and channel in every instance when a symptom or situation of risk appears, making possible that they live in a safe environment. We seek to advance in Child Sexual Abuse prevention in every social setting, because it is a problem that affects the whole of society and because it has not been dealt with in an integral manner, notwithstanding that its consequences damage radically the lives of children and teenagers. Consequentially, we will, through educational programs, facilitate information and preventive tools to help people inhibit CSA in their environment, and at the same time we will facilitate instruments that will teach people what to do when a situation of risk does present. Mission: Promote a culture of prevention and care of Child Sexual Abuse through innovative educational programs and care models, so that children, teenagers and their families have a life free from sexual violence.

Jovenes de Puerto Rico en Riesgo, Inc.

Jovenes de Puerto Rico en Riesgo, Inc. (PRYR) is a private non-profit organization working in the youth behavioral health field in Puerto Rico since 1996. Its main purpose is to prevent youth violence and retain at risk youth in school. It designed and developed a program based on state of the art scientific data, tailored to Puerto Rican culture and socioeconomic characteristics, and founded in the model of Risk and Protective Factors. PRYR projects, were created in response to school dropout rates of students at their educational transition phases, unacceptably high in low income communities. Its unique and innovative mentorship program, with evidence-based design and implementation practices, serves high-risk youth 11 to 17 years of age. One-to-one mentoring is an essential element of the model, being the first in Puerto Rico to utilize this strategy for high risk students. It has a 95%+ sustained effectiveness rate in preventing school dropout and violent/delinquent behavior since 2000. The organization's mission is: to develop and implement preventive programs for youth at risk promoting their full potential for success and leadership, through the use of adult and peer mentors, personal and social development workshops for them, their families and teachers, academic support, and safe haven centers, established in their school premises, and meaningful work and service experiences.

Kitale Community Advancement Programme (KAP)

To transform and restore hope to broken lives by mitigating the impacts of societal breakdown especially those related to breakdown of traditional societies and introduction of new lifestyles. This is achieved through innovative education and counseling towards healing, prevention of and addressing the systemic drivers of its prioritised issues, namely (1) trauma and its underlying conflicts, violence and broken commUNITY peace, (2) distorted emotional & social capacity, (3) behaviours promoting HIV/AIDS and related infections, and (4) substance abuse, with special attention for marginalised youths. In particular KAP empowers people at 'grassroots' level by giving them knowledge and skills as well as a concerned and helping human heart. KAP's CORE INTERVENTIONS mainly revolve around (1) Community-based training of Community Resource Persons (CRPs); (2) Provision of professional counselling and (psycho-) education services; (3) Health promotion courses and counselling for reimbursement/for a fee. KAP's prioritised issues are organised into four SUB-PROGRAMMES: (1) HIV/AIDS Behaviour Education, (2) Abuse and Addiction Prevention, Community-Based Treatment and Referral, (3) Prevention and Healing of Violence and Trauma for Peace, and (4) Empowering Youths on the Margins ('Unreached Youths'). A fifth strategic pillar called 'Institutional Excellence' aims at continued organisational, partnerships and human resources development. KAP's CROSS-CUTTING ISSUES are Safeguarding & Protection, Gender, Environmental Preservation, and Other Emerging Issues.
