On a single event day, more than a thousand volunteers will turn out to make a noticeable improvement to the greater Los Angeles region. Teams of 6-8 volunteers will each walk a 2-4 mile route, picking up litter from sidewalks, gutters, and fences. Each route starts and ends at one of LA Metro's 132 subway, light rail, or express bus stations, or at a neighborhood hub sites Kicking off with a morning briefing and distribution of supplies (bags, gloves, grabbers, maps, T-shirts, etc), volunteers fan out on foot or on the Metro system to clean their routes. When they are done, they can head to the after party in downtown LA to celebrate their achievement - simultaneously UNLITTERING hundreds of miles of Southland streets! UNLITTERLA is not about simply picking up after others - it's about changing culture and habits in our city, even for those not participating by the event's high visibility and media coverage.
