Since 1972 ACTS has been bringing clean water to villages in Southwestern Uganda. Our water projects include community education in the areas of health and sanitation and environmental issues. We partner with the Church of Uganda (Anglican) and have developed healthy working relationships with various local agencies as a means of providing villagers with access to resources in health (specifically HIV/AIDS testing and education) and sustainable agriculture initiatives. In recent years we have also developed Mutual Benefit Societies for widows who have limited means to support themselves and their children. Through co-operative farming, animal husbandry and handicrafts these women work together to achieve the financial means to support themselves and contribute to their communities. We have enjoyed support from CIDA in 3-1 matching funding for these projects as well as funding for Canadian youth interns to work in their field of expertise to serve these communities.

We are a collaborative, inner-city Winnipeg, 9-site community outreach organization especially reaching marginalized women/families expecting a baby or parenting a baby to 1 year. Health & nutrition from the start are encouraged by welcoming, interactive, practical educational groups and one-on-one support. Healthy low-cost snacks, ready-to-cook Meal Bags for $1.50, childminding at groups, milk coupons (as financially needed), language interpreting at 1 location, & access to friendly nurse, dietitian or outreach workers are offered. Results include: Prevention of low birth weight (LBW) babies, Prevention of FASD (Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder) Increased breastfeeding and increased protective health factors for babies Increased nutritional and health knowledge Identifying failure to thrive babies Improved parent confidence, knowledge, skills Supported by the Canada Prenatal Nutrition Program and Healthy Child Manitoba as well as by donations & sales of educational posters.

The Karen are an ethnic group residing in Eastern Burma and North-western Thailand who face economic, social and language barriers. There are estimated to be 3 to 7 million Karen living in Burma/Thailand and 400 Karen refugees resettled in Ottawa. KLEO supports and empowers the Karen through programs created in consultation with them. Programs in Thailand include: Jen's House, a residence providing financial and emotional support for Karen children from remote areas allowing them to attend school; support at refugee camps, including provision of school uniforms; assistance in mountain villages, including support to a women's weaving project. Programs in Ottawa include: a Karen English Summer school, where Karen students improve their English and learn about Karen culture; a Karen Community Farm, which allows the Karen to use skills brought from Burma to restart their lives; Citizenship classes, where assistance is provided for obtaining citizenship; and other general support.

Fast Rural Development Program (FRDP) is a nonprofit and nongovernmental organization registered under the societies Act XXI of 1860, working in the underprivileged areas of Sindh, Pakistan since 2007. The Program is aimed at facilitating the disadvantaged communities in a way that they could be empowered to secure their rights with command over the resources and capabilities to manage the process of sustainable development. FRDP is involved with overall integrated development but its major focus is to promote Water and Sanitation, Health & Hygiene, Emergency Relief, improve Education, SRHR, MNCH, Poverty Alleviation, Promotion of Human Rights (especially the rights of women, children indigenous groups and persons with disabilities), Peace Building and Good Governance. FRDP has well educated, experienced and committed members on its board. FRDP is known for its highly qualified, motivated and experienced staff, quality work, transparent systems and excellent perception among the communities, government and other relevant stakeholders at provincial, national and international level. FRDP has implemented a wide range of projects with its national and international partners including government in the fields as mentioned above. Some prominent partners are Sindh Education Foundation, UNICEF, FAO, IOM, Oxfam, Concern Worldwide, The Asia Foundation, Penny Appeal, Amir Khan Foundation and ActionAid. The organization has up to the mark systems and policies which include Tally ERP Financial Software, Financial Policy, Admin & Logistic Policy, HR & Gender Policy, Internal & External Audit Systems and Complaint Response Mechanism. FRDP seeks the services of topmost auditors for its annual audit. FRDP believes in two-way monitoring system i.e. top to bottom and vice versa. FRDP has its well established and equipped Head Office in Hyderabad and a number of Field Offices in different districts. Guelph Youth Singers (GYS), now in its 22nd season, has become a high profile representative of the City of Guelph in the field of choral music. Founded in 1991, this organization was formed to provide children and youth with an opportunity to experience a professional level of musicianship. The three treble choirs in the organization are: Choir I, a training choir of children aged 6 and up; Choir II, a more advanced training choir of children and youth aged 9 and up; and Choir III, a choir for singers who have superior singing and music reading skills, aged 11 and up. A Chamber Choir has been incorporated as a part of Choir III, and is an advanced ensemble for young women aged 16 and up. GYS also offers a seasonal boys’ choir. Weekly instruction includes vocal technique, theory and sight singing. Workshops by guest clinicians in drama, movement and voice are also offer. GYS performs up to five concerts per season as well as, festival, corporate, community and guest performances.

LOKA HITHAM MAMA KARANEEYAM (little for self, everything else for society) Hindu Seva Pratishthana (HSP) is committed to the upliftment of the under-served and the people with special needs without any discrimination on the basis of caste, creed or religion. Through service HSP aims to bring about a transformation in the society where people and communities will be self-reliant. The instruments of this change are Sevavratis - young men and women volunteers - many of whom dedicate their lives fully to the noble cause of serving the society in this area. Sevavratis, in the course of their training at HSP, realize, imbibe qualities like patriotism, perseverance and humility, and acquire the skills in working areas like Rural Development, Eradication of untouchability, Drive against alcoholism, Literacy, Child Education, Common Health Education, Individual and Family Counselling, Propagating Yoga and Spoken Samskruta language, Rehabilitation of the Mentally Retarded and Physically handicapped and Street Children, and Environmental protection. Since its inception in 1980, HSP has been constantly expanding its activities, covering more people in towns and villages, and ensuring the co-operation and participation of local people so that the services are effective and benefits are long lasting.

To promote, encourage and project these principles in all its dimensions, within and beyond South Africa's borders. Without derogating from the generality of the aforegoing the activities of the Foundation , inter alia , include: Disaster management and humanitarian aid delivery in crises whether natural or man-made including floods, cyclones, hurricanes, earthquakes , tornado, accidents and war; Establishment of medical facilities , clinics and hospitals; Delivery of medicines and medical equipment; Establishment of feeding schemes, food parcel delivery and poverty relief programmes including assistance with burial and funeral arrangements, provision of new and used clothing, blankets and baby milk powder; Provision of boreholes, waterwells and water purification tablets; Provision of free telephonic and face-face counselling services in matters of depression, drug abuse, relationship problems, HIV/AIDS, marital discord, parenting, learning difficulties, teenage problems, child abuse, domestic violence, maintenance grants, etc. ; Establishment of Drug Rehab Centres and Havens for the abused; women and children in particular; Establishment of orphanages and old age homes; Provision of wheelchairs, hearing aids, braille machines and any such equipment and aids to assist physically and mentally challenged individuals; Provision of Life Skills training; empowerment counselling and skills in counselling; Establishment of skills development programmes, entrepreneul skills and job creation projects; Promoting South Africa as a means to encourage tourism, investment and further job creation initiatives; Provision of agricultural implements and Farmer's Packs (seeds, fertiliser , LAN, etc.) to promote food security and self sustainability; Establishment of educational institutions whether religious or secular; Provision of bursaries, textbooks, stationery, computers, technology workshops and other educational support; Establishment of places of worship including a tekke (meeting place for dervishes or disciples); Promotion of peace, tolerance, understanding, love, mercy and inter-faith dialopue between people, communities, cultures and religions; Promotion of faith, spirituality and religious awareness ; Establishment of community radio, television and media to assist with all the above principles; Support of artists who can promote all the above principles through song , writings, etc.

The Advocacy Project - A Voice for the Voiceless The Advocacy Project (AP) helps marginalized communities around the world take action against the root causes of their disempowerment in a way that benefits society as a whole and produces social change. To do this, we partner with community-based advocates who represent these communities and share their problems. Our support for partners is innovative and effective. First, we deploy Peace Fellows (experienced graduate students) to help partners tell their story, launch campaigns, and strengthen their organization: we have deployed 274 Peace Fellows since 2003, and in the process given our Fellows a unique experience. Second, we help partners to raise funds and manage their campaigns: we have raised over $2.5 million for partners, and are currently seeking funds through Global Giving for exciting projects in Nepal, Vietnam and Uganda. Third, we promote the work of partners internationally, using new methods of story-telling such as advocacy quilting: over 300 women have produced embroidered panels for our quilts, which have been shown throughout North America and Europe. We work with a grassroots network of local partners, and give special attention to the education and empowerment of girls and women. Karuna-Shechen's name expresses its mission while paying homage to its roots: Karuna means "compassion" in Sanskrit, and Shechen is the name of a major monastery in Tibet.

Bangalore Rural Educational and Development Society (BREADS) is a non-governmental organization committed to sustainable development. Founded in the year 1993, it is dedicated to the empowerment of the marginalized poor in Kerala and Karnataka State of India irrespective of their caste, creed, gender or political affiliations. BREADS works through the Partners (Don Bosco Development Offices) working at grass root level. BREADS is more involved in policy matters, Capacity building, fundraising and collaborating with the government and non-government funding agencies, while the development partners concentrates on the implementation of the program, its management and monitoring. Over the past 19 years, BREADS has maintained a strong donor base of supporters, a consistent network of thousands of volunteers, development organizations, developmental and technical professionals and hundreds of grassroots level people's organizations actively involved in the development process. BREADS stands for sustainable community development and development of the youths and children by addressing the basic individual and community needs of the marginalized on a long-term basis. Ever since its origin, BREADS has been in the forefront to fight poverty by assisting the poor to enhance their education and skills to find livelihood and sustainable living conditions. Over the years it has helped more than 75000 youths, children and women through various programs/projects and has been actively involved in community initiatives.

We create seed collection networks within rural communities and capacitate families including women and children to produce the tree saplings. We use sponsorship money to buy the saplings, transport them to participating family farm owned by a Costa Rican family. We pay workers to plant the trees and build protective fences. For 4 years afterwards, we return to chop grasses and maintain the trees until they reach safe height for survival. We return to each family farm once a year and prescribed times, we allow the family to harvest some lumber through the thinning process. The family can collect all fruits. Our plantings are highly diverse native species. We also engage in regular education porgrams around Costa Rica and the globe through building networks fo special tree friends. Our Mission is to create win win win relationships among people who want to offset their carbon footprint and thereby share their resources with those struggling to live with the remaining rainforest on their land. Giving local people alternative income streams long term by planting valuable lumber within each project teaches and empowers locals to plant trees for cutting instead of illegally cutting the rainforest. Planting trees in high diversity insures protection of flora andf fauna and watersheds.
