Canary Foundation

Canary Foundation is the world’s first non-profit organization dedicated solely to the funding, discovery and development of tests for early cancer detection. Identifying early stage cancers will save lives; while less than 15% of research funding goes to early detection, early intervention is far more effective than late stage treatment. The greatest advances in cancer research can be obtained — and more lives saved — by reorienting research toward earlier detection and prevention.

Health
National Breast Center Foundation

The National Breast Center Foundation exists to improve the lives of women by removing barriers that prevent them from getting proper screening, diagnosis, and education about breast cancer. Our region has the HIGHEST incidence and mortality from breast cancer in the nation. Women in our area also have one of the highest rates of late stage breast cancer. Something has to happen to address this crisis. I believe that education, access, and technology are the answer.

Cancerfit

CancerFIT is a non-profit that provides complimentary evidence-based exercise classes to cancer patients and survivors. It is well established that radiation therapy and certain chemotherapy agents can cause a decrease in cardiovascular function. Large studies have demonstrated that this decrease can be reduced or even eliminated if patients exercise during the weeks or months they are receiving chemotherapy. Presently, researchers are conducting studies to determine whether exercise can prevent cancer recurrence and/or improve survival outcomes. CancerFIT's mission is to provide these benefits to patients at no cost.

The Rose

We believe no one should die from breast cancer simply because they can't afford a mammogram. The Rose has been committed to eliminating breast healthcare inequities for Southeast Texas women since its founding in 1986. The organization was founded by two pioneering women determined to provide comprehensive, quality breast care. The Rose provides mammograms, diagnostic work including biopsies, and access to treatment if needed to all women regardless of their ability to pay.  Each year approximately 7,000 uninsured women and men in our community come to The Rose for help. They have no other place to go. The Rose is the only nationally recognized nonprofit breast health organization in Texas that simultaneously serves the insured and the uninsured through a preventive, culturally sensitive, family-centered, and community-based approach. We have the highest ratings available from independent charity watchdog organizations. While we know we can’t stop breast cancer from happening, together, we can make a difference in whether an uninsured woman survives it.

Zip With Us

Zip With Us, Inc. is a 501(c)3 public charity serving infants and children with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses via the donation of custom, vibrant medically-adapted garments. Our products enable kids ranging from infants to teens to keep their shirts on during chemotherapy and other infusion treatments both in the hospital and during at-home care. Our ZipShirts™ provide dignity and comfort, while making the medical device “access” process easier for both patients and caregivers since they are configured for the individual patient’s medical access points (e.g. ports, picc lines, central lines, g-tubes, n-tubes, etc.). They are soft, bright and personalized to match a child’s favorite colors, characters, and themes. Our new line of Drew’s Cruisers™ are medically-adapted onesies that protect a baby’s central lines via fasteners and flaps, allowing the child to move and play freely without worrying about line dislodgement or injury. These onesies are positive for these little ones in two powerful ways: (i) mitigating the chance of line infections and the need for unnecessary surgery due to accidental dislodgement, as well as (ii) helping prevent developmental stagnation by allowing free movement.
