Cowichan Independent Living is operated by persons with disabilities for persons with disabilities. Our programs and services are founded on the principals that all people should be able to: 1.Live with dignity in their chosen community; 2.Participate in all aspects of their own lives; and 3.Control and make decisions about their own lives. What We Do: •Cowichan Independent Living will assist anyone who self discloses they have a disability. •We will advocate on behalf of persons living with a disability and at the same time, teach consumers the skills necessary to advocate for themselves. •We promote the independent living movement and model to improve the daily lives for persons living with a disability. •We network with all levels of government and the community to ensure that the needs of persons living with disabilities are being met. •We deliver programs and services based solidly on the principles of Independent Living.
The AIDS Committee of Newfoundland and Labrador (ACNL) is a consumer - focused, non-profit organization that provides supportive programs and services aimed at preventing HIV/AIDS and supporting persons living with and affected by HIV/AIDS. We work on a collaborative basis with our partners, interested groups and stakeholders to achieve our goals. We demonstrate accountability by ensuring a competent, effective and transparent organization.
Since 1993, we have been working to improve the quality of life in York Region by raising awareness through community education, and by providing support and access to dignified care for people living with and affected by HIV/AIDS. All our services are free of charge, confidential and anonymous. We envision an informed and compassionate society, which is supportive of people living with HIV/AIDS who are striving to overcome social, economic and service challenges, working with them towards a healthy and empowered lifestyle. Belmont House is a charitable home for seniors offering long term care, retirement living and apartments since 1852.
All of the funds raised by the Foundation, through donations and events, remain in this community to be used to fulfill the Foundation's goals of enhancing the care and treatment of cancer patients in Windsor & Essex County, and supporting locally based cancer research.
Learning Loss Group Program In this program the clinical counsellor uses proven curriculum to create an open, supportive environment that promotes individual sharing of ideas and feelings regarding issues of death and loss. Goals are to develop an understanding and awareness of normal grief reactions; identify and enhance specific coping skills and tasks to help deal with grief and loss; and develop a more positive attitude and approach to everyday living. Good Grief Workshop The facilitator opens dialogue with youth in middle and high schools about loss and the process of grief that follows. Topics include: different reactions one may have to loss; how to recognize grief in self and others; how to express one’s feelings and grief; and common coping skills and strategies for healing. Community Education Workshop This workshop provides individuals who work with and support youth an opportunity to explore the topic of teen grief and how to support healthy coping and healing.
The Northern BC Children and Families Hearing Society is a non-profit organization that was founded over 30 years ago to support families of deaf and hard of hearing children and reaches out to communities across Northern British Columbia. CAEO Québec currently operates two community programs that help us achieve our objectives. These programs are listed as follows: GAY LINE a free and confidential listening, referral and support telephone service for the community; SILK, (Sexual Information Leads to Knowledge) an initiative to increase the awareness and knowledge of targeted groups, such as students and seniors with respect to sexual health, orientation, and diversity through free workshops.
Founded in 1987 and a registered charity since 1990, AWISH is a non profit, community resource organization located on the West Island of Montreal. AWISH is supported by its members, local communities, businesses and West Island Community Shares. We also work cooperatively with national and international arthritis organizations. To help people achieve a better quality of life, we provide the much-needed tools and encouragement through our volunteers who have their own experiences with arthritis, and who are eager to share in one-on-one or group settings. AWISH complements the healthcare system by providing exercise programs, coping skills and techniques courses, support groups and information sessions to arthritis patients, their families and friends and the community at large. Founded in 1965, the Canadian Orthopaedic Foundation is a mid-sized registered Canadian charity powered by a professional staff and network of over 300 volunteers. The Foundation is Canada’s only charitable organization dedicated solely to helping people maintain and restore their bone and joint – or orthopaedic – health. The Foundation is dedicated to raising funds through public donations and allocating those funds to initiatives that will contribute to achieving its Mission.
The L & A Hospital Foundation is an independent, charitable organization governed by a dedicated board of volunteers. The Foundation was established in 1995 to encourage and to co-ordinate a continuing high level of support for the Hospital. The Hospital Foundation serves as the fund-raising arm of the hospital and as a prudent steward of funds entrusted to its care. Thanks to the continued generosity of donors the Foundation is able to help the Hospital buy much needed medical equipment, support new programs and raise money for renovation and redevelopment projects.
