The Centre for Mindfulness Studies is an innovative charity in Toronto, Ontario. We offer mindfulness-based therapies and professional training for health care and social service providers. As a social enterprise, we use the revenue generated by these programs as a sustainable source of funding for the services we provide for free or at nominal cost to those who face economic and/or social barriers. In our social program, we have partnered with social service agencies across Toronto, training front-line workers in strategies for coping with stress, and delivering therapy to their clients; including low-income women in Parkdale, and isolated seniors in Lawrence Heights.

VNA Hospice & Palliative Care also offers three home-like hospice residences (Elizabeth Evarts de Rham Hospice Home, Cambridge; Rose Monahan Hospice Home, Worcester; and Stanley R. CGMH is a small community hospital serving approximately 60,000 full time residents and over 2.5 million weekenders and visitors annually. We are a major trauma unit and a regional orthopaedic center of excellence. Historically, government funding of CGMH has been barely adequate to cover operational costs such as salaries, medications, utilities and other supplies. As a result, over the past 15 years community support has been the only reliable source of funding to replace worn and outdated equipment/furnishings or to invest in new medical technology. CGMH Foundation is a volunteer led organization tasked with raising the funds necessary to ensure physicians and staff at CGMH have the tools and facilities they need to make fast, accurate diagnoses and deliver exceptional care. CGMH Foundation abides by Imagine Canada’s Ethical Fundraising Code and the Donor Bill of Rights.
The Stop’s work is based on the belief that food is a basic human right. Each year over 14,000 people access our centre for food, social support and advocacy. Although not often attracting the kind of attention it deserves, the hunger crisis in Toronto is severe. A recent study of our food bank members showed that 51% of them go hungry at least once a week. This inability to consistently access food translates into problems such as poor health and social isolation -- issues that ultimately affect us all as a society. While The Stop is probably best known for its food bank, we also run breakfast and lunch programs, offer pre- and postnatal nutrition and support, facilitate group cooking classes and grow food in a local park and greenhouse for many of our programs. The Stop is a vibrant place that is a well-respected leader in the food security sector.

Since 1986, the St. Joseph's International Outreach Program has worked in collaboration with our partners in developing nations to build healthcare capacity through education, training, and capacity building efforts. With current projects in Uganda and Haiti, we are guided by the following principles: We believe universal access to effective healthcare is a basic human right and we will speak out against practices that run counter to this belief. We recognize that we work at the invitation of our in-country partners. We believe that our in-country partners must contribute to our projects in ways that are meaningful. We believe that raising false expectations is more detrimental than raising none. We accept that our work is highly dependent on factors beyond our control and as such, success metrics must be dynamic. We accept that anything is possible. Hope and action will guide our work.
