Re:Gender, formerly National Council for Research on Women, works to end gender inequity and discrimination against girls and women by exposing root causes and advancing research-informed action. Working with multiple sectors and disciplines, we are shaping a world that demands fairness across difference.

We have a vision: A world where women control their own bodies, reproduction and sexuality. The Feminist Women's Health Center / Women's Health Specialists is dedicated to providing women-controlled health care and advocating for all options for all women. Only with dignity and freedom of choice can women achieve their full potential.

Friends Women's Association, FWA, is a grass-roots organization in Burundi, addresses the needs of women in conflict, poverty, HIV/AIDS, and sexual violence. The FWA health care clinic focuses on treating both physical and psycho-social needs. FWA provides a comprehensive health care to women and their families, to promote women's leadership and autonomy and to strengthen peace and solidarity in Kamenge, a slum in Bujumbura and in other communities of Burundi.

The mission of Family Violence Prevention Services, Inc. is to break the cycle of violence and to strengthen families by providing the necessary tools for self-sufficiency through delivery of emergency shelter, transitional housing, individual counseling and support groups, education, effective parenting education, and specialized intervention with youth and the elderly.

THE WOMEN'S CENTER OF NORTHWEST INDIANA PROVIDES FREE SUPPORT FOR SERVICES TO WOMEN AND THEIR CHILDREN.

Women and children of the Rochester region are disproportionately affected by poverty as documented in the findings of the study on the economic status of women by the Women’s Foundation of Genesee Valley. The minimum income a family needs for ordinary living costs (food, housing, transportation, health care, child care) is far higher than the federal poverty threshold and also significantly higher than what someone working full-time at the minimum wage can earn. Half of all households headed by women have incomes too small to meet basic needs. The burden of poverty falls disproportionately on women—especially African-American, Hispanic, and Native American women. The study also found that 62% of households in poverty were headed by women; of those, more than 93% had children under the age of 18 years. In addition, 34% of women who had dropped out of high school were living in poverty. Our mission is to promote economic self-sufficiency for women and girls through grant making, education, and advocacy.
