MISSION Women for Afghan Women (WAW) is dedicated to protecting and promoting the rights of disenfranchised Afghan women and girls in Afghanistan and the U.S. In particular, WAW works to help Afghan women and girls exercise their rights to pursue their individual potential to self-determination, and to representation in all areas of life—political, social, cultural, and economic. WAW relentlessly advocates for women's rights and challenges the norms that underpin gender-based violence wherever opportunities arise to influence attitudes and bring about change.VISIONA world in which Afghan women and girls enjoy peace, justice, equality, and freedom to participate in all spheres of life and live without fear. A world in which all women and their families thrive and prosper.

We believe every person has a story and every story has value. We exist to empower communities to end the cycle of human trafficking by starting and supporting social enterprises that raise awareness, offer opportunities for economic independence for survivors and fund the fight against human trafficking. Currently Stories Foundation operates the Freedom Food Truck and Storyteller Catering. In the future we hope to operate a Cafe and sell food products. All with the goal of spreading awareness about human trafficking and empowering people to make a difference through purposeful purchasing as a first step

NIGEE envisions a society and a future of self-determining and self-reliant girls and women. To achieve this, we have a mission to leverage community and other resources to equip girls with knowledge and skills for productive and fulfilled adult life. The Initiative identifies and taps into community resources to support girls' education and training as a foundation for self-reliance and self-determination in and beyond basic needs. Since initiation, our goal has been to generate local resources and return back to school girls who dropped out mainly due to early pregnancy and child marriage. NIGEE's core values and mandate are to protect, promote and ensure that all rights of women and girls are respected. We focus specifically on the rights to education and sexual and reproductive health. The right to education is a bridge to other rights, and education gives young women choices and the power to decide over their own lives and bodies. Indeed, the cascading benefits of female education to girls, their families and community underscores the imperative of supporting girls' education and secondary education is particularly critical for breaking the cycle of poverty and addressing a host of other indicators of poor health. NIGEE employs two advocacy approaches: Human Rights Based approach (conventional) and Societal Responsibility approach (crafted by NIGEE's Patron). We believe that making our community a safe place for girls and women is everyone's responsibility. To support our activities, we focus on mobilization of local resources through social entrepreneurship. This is our pillar to sustainability and ownership; external resources are supplemental. Through championing local resource mobilization initiatives, we aim at facilitating sustainable community-owned educational model to enhance school re-enrolment, retention, attendance and learning outcomes by girls who resume school after dropping out. For the girls who are in our program and those who also dropped out of school due to teen pregnancy in their communities, we plan to initiate retreats during school holidays were we provide education, information sharing and contraceptives so that they do not continue to have more children.

Blackburn Center advocates for the rights of all individuals to live free from domestic and sexual violence and other forms of violence by eliminating root causes and providing for the well-being and safety of survivors/victims.

Middle Way House works to support all survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking; and to educate the community through outreach and prevention programs.

About Us: Our Bridgeport club was founded in 1992, and is part of Soroptimist International of the Americas which was founded in 1921. Soroptimist is an international volunteer organization for business and professional women who work to improve the lives of women and girls, in local communities and throughout the world. A 501(c)(3) organization, Soroptimist relies on charitable contributions to fund its programs. Local members join with almost 100,000 Soroptimists in more than120 countries and territories to contribute time and financial support to community-based projects benefiting women. Soroptimist International has consultative status with the United Nations’ Economic and Social Council, which oversees U.N. activities promoting human rights. In addition to sponsoring the awards programs, our club has participated in community programs focused on various health and human service issues for women and girls, such as the Center for Women and Families, Mi Casa/My Home, Women and Men’s Health Project, Project Courage, and Local Soup Kitchens. South Africa is experiencing epidemic levels of gender-based violence, GBV, and victims and survivors of GBV are being grossly violated by the system designed to protect them. Lawyers Against Abuse, LvA works to create systemic change to prevent abuse, protect victims and ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice. To achieve this, LvA is on a mission to empower victims with direct legal representation; to encourage victims to claim their rights; to catalyse improved system response through targeted impact education; and to support and respect the rights of victims in the process.
