En el 2013 a partir del crecimiento de los eventos TEDxPuraVidaJoven, en donde se reune a mas de 20 000 personas en Costa Rica, con ideas excepcionales para compartir y cambiar nuestro mundo; el equipo organizador identifico una oportunidad para fomentar formalmente esas ideas y transformarlas en iniciativas reales. Nuestro maximo objetivo es contribuir al desarrollo sostenible en Costa Rica y la region, y lo logramos trabajando en conjunto con nuestra comunidad para identificar buenas ideas y convertirlas en acciones, de ahi nuestro lema: "Innovacion colaborativa". ------------ Collaborate with us for social innovation in Costa Rica. We are a collaborative community that identifies, executes and spreads social innovation projects with high potential of replicability, scalability and international relevance for sustainable development. Our vision is to contribute to the sustainable development of the country, serve from a platform that looks to implement and keep track of ideas with high impact potential in the field of innovation and social entrepreneurship in Costa Rica. In 2013 from the growth of the TEDxPuraVidaJoven events, where over 20,000 people come together in Costa Rica with exceptional ideas to share and change our world, the organizing team identified an opportunity to formally encourage these ideas and transform them into real initiatives. Our greatest objective is to contribute to the sustainable development in Costa Rica and the region, and that we achieve it by working together with our community to identify good ideas and convert them into actions, hence our motto: "Collaborative innovation".

WE CARE Solar promotes safe motherhood and reduces maternal mortality in developing regions by providing health workers with reliable lighting, mobile communication, and blood bank refrigeration using solar electricity. The Problem Maternal mortality worldwide accounts for more than half a million deaths a year; 99 percent of these occur in underdeveloped countries. For every maternal death, at least 20 women suffer severe complications from childbirth. Major causes of maternal death include obstetric hemorrhage, obstructive labor, eclampsia, and sepsis. These emergencies cannot always be predicted, nor are they always preventable. However, with prompt, appropriate and reliable medical care, they are unlikely to result in loss of life. Sporadic electricity impairs the operation of surgical wards, delivery wards, essential hospital equipment, and hospital communication devices. This compromises the ability of health workers to provide safe, appropriate and timely medical care. Labor and delivery nurses cannot quickly notify on-call physicians of emergencies. Midwives and physicians are forced to make treatment decisions without the benefit of necessary diagnostic tests. Obstetric procedures and emergency surgeries are conducted under grossly suboptimal conditions, and can have tragic consequences. Our Background Co-founder Dr. Laura Stachel went to Northern Nigeria in 2008 to study ways to lower maternal mortality in state hospitals. She witnessed deplorable conditions in state facilities including sporadic electricity that impaired maternity and surgical care. Without a reliable source of electricity, nighttime deliveries were attended in near darkness, cesarean sections were cancelled or conducted by flashlight, and critically ill patients waited hours or days for life-saving procedures. The outcomes were often tragic. Laura wrote to her husband, Hal Aronson, a solar energy educator back in Berkeley, California. Together, Laura and Hal co-founded WE CARE Solar to improve maternal health outcomes in regions without reliable electricity. Hal designed an off-grid solar electric system for the hospital Laura was studying, targeting the maternity ward, labor room, laboratory and operating theatre. A Portable Solution Hal created a suitcase-sized prototype of the hospital solar electric system so Laura could show Nigerian hospital workers the LED lights, headlamps and walkie-talkies planned for deployment. When Laura returned to Nigeria toting the "solar suitcase," her Nigerian colleagues immediately grasped its significance and began using this kit to charge headlamps and walkie-talkies while they awaited the larger solar installation. In addition, hospital employees introduced Laura to clinicians in outlying health facilities who begged her to bring solar lighting to their own clinics, too. Our five-year goal is to serve 5 million mothers in remote areas by deploying 10,000 Solar Suitcases to health care facilities around the globe.

To bridge the literacy and digital divide by using ICT to foster lifelong learning and hands-on education for children and youth in Nigeria and Africa.

HOCAP exists to provide care and protection for deprived orphans, deprived children and deprived widows in poor rural and urban communities. It seeks to provide orphans and under-privileged children an enabling environment for development through the provision of education, health care, advocacy, and small scale enterprise.

EDD mission: "We transform the lives of Rwandan street children by meeting their basic and psychosocial needs, providing them with education and skills, and reintegrating them to become valuable members of society."

The Ann Foundation is dedicated to improving the lives of children and youth with disabilities and/or from economically disadvantaged backgrounds in developing countries. Through partnerships with local NGOs and educational institutions, we primarily provide educational services including English, computer literacy, and personality development through Skype and other technology. We also support health and humanitarian services through mission trips to developing countries.

"Bright Side Projects" creates a support system dedicated to long term improvement in the lives of children and families through creative education, plant-based foods, and eco-friendly content rich activities. How: Build knowledge in hands-on, project-based lessons Provide resources for families and at-risk individuals Three phase program empowering youth through educational scholarships and life skills training Socialization, emotion management, confidence building for success in society Promote community involvement through education and volunteer opportunities

To improve the quality of life and advance the rights of children; To bring about change for good on behalf of children and families, and encourage them to participate in processes which enhance their equality, self-reliance and long term sustainable development; Wherever possible to provide practical support which allows children to grow up within their own families and communities

Telerik Academy School is a national educational program by the Telerik Academy Foundation. Our mission is to provide equal access to modern tech education to Bulgarian children and prepare them for the digital future. By providing free training in programming and digital science, we help 1st-12th graders develop key digital competencies and knowledge and become bold inventors, digital leaders, sought-after professionals, and active citizens. Telerik Academy School has trained more than 12,000 students to date, equipping them with the key skills for the digital economy and fostering their logical thinking, creativity and problem-solving skills. Trainings are currently held in 102 cohorts in 25 cities in Bulgaria. We aim to further expand our footprint and network of cohorts and reach even more children.

Los Patojos was created to give hope and dignity to the children and youth of Jocotenango. Our purpose is to prevent our children and youth from falling into lives of despair, poverty and violence. We are working toward this objective by being agents of change, using dialogue to resolve problems, rather than violence. We address the various issues these children face by engaging them in fine arts, journalism, ballet, break dancing, photography and music lessons. Through these activities their self-confidence, their pride and their hope for a better future grows incredibly. They learn valuable life skills, such as perseverance, team co-operation and dignity. They know they can aspire to achieve more than the lives they see around them. We are also now an approved school offering free education from Pre-Primary to Grade 7, with Grade 8 being added in 2017 and Grade 9 in 2018.

The Museum of Prairiefire Foundation (Museum at Prairiefire) is committed to innovative learning in science, the arts and natural history. Through a founding collaboration with the American Museum of Natural History in New York City, as well as with other cultural and educational institutions in the nation, the Museum at Prairiefire is a place that provides ACCESS FOR ALL to understand and celebrate natural history and science in our region and around the world. The MAP engages visitors and students of all ages with world-class exhibitions, important programming, and provides significant educational and STEAM opportunities for underserved children through KC Urban Advantage.

CEMINA ( Communication, Education, Information and Adaptation) is a not- for- profit organization founded in 1990 to empower women and communities through the use of the radio. Over the years CEMINA has created 400 women's radio programs and has been awarded with various prizes. The radio model, created by CEMINA, is considered a social technology and has been disseminated not only in Brazil but in other countries as well. Since 2007, CEMINA has shifted its focus from radio to the capacity building for social start ups and education for adaptation to climate change. One of its main projects is Adapta Sertao ( www.adaptasertao.net) which aim is to develop a social technology that benefits the population of small underserved towns in the semi-arid region of Brazil. The project consists in articulating a group of social technologies that use scare resources such as water and arable land to guarantee the livelihoods of the local communities especially small farmers. The project has received very prestigious awards such as the 2008 SEED Award. It has also been recognized as a best practice by UN Habitat. CEMINA also supports a children- youth program at Favela Julio Otoni. The program offers a series of benefits for children with ages between 6 and 14 years old. The idea is to offer these children the new possibilities of seeing and actualizing the world. The program is done with volunteers.
