The Asociacion Protectora de Animales (A.P.A.) "El Refugio" was founded on December 2, 1998 and is a non-profit Civil Association that assists a population of 360 dogs and 40 cats. These animals arrive at this institution victims of accidents, serious diseases, old age and the most varied situations of mistreatment and abandonment. Once they are recovered, they are vaccinated and spayed or neutered and then given up for responsible adoption. Currently we have an average weekly intake of ten puppies and four adult dogs. Our mission is that all animals can find a family, but the reality is that many of these dogs and cats will never be adopted since they are left with sequelae, are many years old, blind, handicapped, etc. For these reasons, El Refugio is the only home that many of them will ever know and we work daily to give them the best quality of life possible. Over the years we have developed a series of strategies that allow us to take on this daily challenge, taking into account the responsibility we have with the animals under our care and in our community: Volunteer Program: They are a team of highly committed, dedicated and solvent volunteers who work on an honorary basis in the different activities of El Refugio (repairs, cleaning, walks with our dogs, socialization, among others). Space is limited. Godparents Program: aimed at those people who, although they cannot adopt, take responsibility for one or more of our animals by contributing a special fee for their needs. Educational Outreach Program: since the beginning, educational campaigns and guided tours for children and adolescents from different educational centers have been carried out, and we are in the process of developing a more ambitious educational project that will include teachers, teacher training students and the general public in order to deepen the awareness work related to animal rights, animal welfare, responsible ownership, adoption, etc. Adoption campaigns: these are fundamental pillars in raising awareness about responsible animal ownership and the importance of adoption. These campaigns are organized throughout the year and at various locations in Montevideo. Spay/neuter campaigns: we perform low-cost spay/neuter campaigns, as well as assist in spay/neuter campaigns in several other locations in Montevideo. We also spay/neuter as many animals as possible in the area, often free of charge since El Refugio is located in a critical neighborhood. Attention at the door: we offer first aid, vaccination and deworming at low cost or even free of charge to urgent cases in the area. Intervention, confiscation, and veterinary assistance in serious cases: in addition to assisting animals under our care, we also help by providing assistance and transfers for animals in the area when the owners cannot really afford it
The California School-Based Health Alliance (formerly the California School Health Centers Association) improves the health and academic success of children and youth by advancing health services in schools. We envision a day when all of California's children and youth are healthy and achieving at their full potential. Since hiring our first paid staff in 2003, the Alliance has successfully grown to have an annual budget of more than $1,500,000 and thirteen staff. We conduct policy work, promote the school based health center (SBHC) model, and assist SBHCs with program development to expand and strengthen school health services. Our large network of collaborating partners includes 231 SBHCs, numerous school districts, federally qualified health centers and other providers, dozens of state and local policy organizations, and an e-communications network of more than 3,200 individuals. Our goal is to make school health centers an integral and sustainable part of the health care and educational systems. By putting health care where kids are – in schools – school health centers increase access to care and take health problems out of the classroom so that teachers can teach and students can learn.

TanzZeit e.V. is a non-profit organization founded in 2005 by dancer and choreographer Livia Patrizi to promote contemporary dance in Berlin schools. As a founding member of the Bundesverband Tanz in Schulen+ e.V. TanzZeit is committed to anchoring the art of dance in the framework curriculum. Since 2010 TanzZeit has received regular funding from the Berlin Senate Department for Education, Youth and Family and has become firmly established in the education system. TanzZeit receives considerable support from Wim Wenders, who has assumed patronage of the project. Since 2006 TanzZeit has been at home in Podewil and is a permanent cooperation partner of Kulturprojekte Berlin GmbH. TanzZeit meanwhile unites five projects: DANCE IN SCHOOLS brings contemporary dance to the classroom and offers students a stage to perform at an annually dance festival. TanzZeit developed the digital toolbox CALYPSO, which provides practical materials for teaching dance in schools - in German and English. It is also the basis of further workshops for artists and teachers. On the stage of TANZKOMPLIZEN TanzZeit presents own dance productions for young audiences. TanzZeit also offers young people an artistic home for rehearsals and performances in the YOUTH COMPANY and hosts Crossover Dance Battles named CLUB OVAL.
Ananda Ashram in Monroe, New York, is a Yoga retreat and spiritual-educational center just over one hour from New York City, founded in 1964 by Shri Brahmananda Sarasvati (then Ramamurti S. Mishra, M.D.) as the country center of the Yoga Society of New York, Inc. Located in the foothills of the Catskill Mountains, the Ashram provides a serene, natural environment with woods and meadows surrounding a lake. Accommodations are simple and meals are vegetarian. We offer daily meditation programs with Yoga-Vedanta studies, chanting and readings, and daily yoga and Sanskrit classes, plus classical Indian dance and music instruction and a variety of weekend workshops and special events. The Ashram is open year-round and welcomes guests from all origins, faiths and cultural backgrounds. Ananda Ashram is also the location of the International Schools of East-West Unity (Gurukula), Inc., established by the Founder in 1992. The workshops and courses offered throughout the year cover the various aspects of Yoga, the creative arts and natural health, and East-West cultural performances highlight summer weekends and special celebrations. Guest teachers and artists from a variety of traditions are regular contributors. The Ashram philosophy is nonsectarian with an emphasis placed on Self-awareness and meditation.
Worldreader is on a mission to bring digital books to every child and her family, so that they can improve their lives. The increasing ubiquity and diminishing costs of digital technology enable us to solve these problems in a simple and straight-forward way. Using e-readers, mobile phones and other digital technology, we reach readers in 37 countries, providing them with over 6,000 book titles in 23 languages. We work with 140 publishers to acquire and digitize the best, most relevant content for our readers; 70% of our library comes from African and Indian publishers. Since 2010, we have made it possible for over 200,000 people to read 1.7 million books and our data shows this work has had significant impact. Students in our e-reader programs make more progress in oral reading fluency than those in neighboring schools, and girls in Worldreader’s school-based programs outpace their peers by a factor of three to five, closing a gender achievement gap. Through these efforts and our partnerships with the private sector, teachers, education experts, and other organizations, we continue to work towards a world in which every child and her family have the books they need to improve their lives, the practice of reading is commonplace, and where illiteracy is a thing of the past.

Communities In Schools (CIS) is the nation’s leading dropout prevention organization, with a mission to surround students with a community of support empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. For more than 30 years, CIS has connected needed community resources with schools. By bringing caring adults and a wide variety of services into schools to address children’s unmet needs, CIS provides a linkbetween educators and the community. The results of CIS’s model are that teachers are free to teach and students, many at risk of dropping out, have the opportunity to focus on learning. To help students stay in school, we identify and bring together in one place – public schools – all the resources and services available in the community that kids need to be successful. These services vary from one community to the next and from state to state and address specific needs such as academic support, mentoring, health care, family strengthening, career development, summer and after-school programs, alternative education models, and service learning. Today, the CIS network is comprised of nearly 5,000 passionate professionals working in close to 200 local affiliate nonprofits in 27 states and the District of Columbia, as well as 53,000 community volunteers, serving 1.2 million young people in more than 2,400 schools around the nation.

PURPOSE OF THE ORGANIZATION A To protect young children and youth in need in Greece from hunger. To protect families with both parents unemployed or poor from hunger and despair with the district way of our distributions of goods at home. Goods include nutrition, detergents, personal hygiene items, books, stationery, schoolbags, cloths, toys. Our support education programs for children and youth in the classroom and at home. We offer ways for parents and community volunteers to get kids reading and doing math outside of school hours. We introduce children to the power of artistic expression - drawing, painting, music, drama, dance and more - to help them heal, learn and do better in school. We make sure that children don't stop learning during a crisis, and we help to keep kids healthy so they don't fall behind or drop out. In 2013, our programs reached 11000 children, thanks to the families, teachers, artists, psychologists, all volunteers, who help inspire these little learners. The World Heart Beat Music Academy envisions a world where music bridges cultural, political, economic and linguistic barriers. We aim to inspire a passion for playing musical instruments and influence a generation of often alienated young people. We provide music tuition and personal development opportunities to over 260 children and young people between the ages of 5 and 24 years, who are based in Wandsworth and the surrounding London boroughs. Many of our students come from a range of challenging backgrounds. Some are the main carer for parents or siblings, some come from households with a history of drug addiction and alcohol abuse, some are classified as not in education, employment or training (NEET) and many are recent migrants and refugees, often moving into the UK without their parents or guardians. Many have difficulties engaging in school and finding employment when they are older. From our discussions with students, community leaders and teachers, we have learned that these young people are also less likely to engage with learning music and, therefore, unable to benefit from the social and personal development resulting from such activities. We provide students with tangible and useful experiences to develop their skills and build confidence, raise their aspirations and enable them to pursue whatever career they choose, in music or otherwise.
Jovenes de Puerto Rico en Riesgo, Inc. (PRYR) is a private non-profit organization working in the youth behavioral health field in Puerto Rico since 1996. Its main purpose is to prevent youth violence and retain at risk youth in school. It designed and developed a program based on state of the art scientific data, tailored to Puerto Rican culture and socioeconomic characteristics, and founded in the model of Risk and Protective Factors. PRYR projects, were created in response to school dropout rates of students at their educational transition phases, unacceptably high in low income communities. Its unique and innovative mentorship program, with evidence-based design and implementation practices, serves high-risk youth 11 to 17 years of age. One-to-one mentoring is an essential element of the model, being the first in Puerto Rico to utilize this strategy for high risk students. It has a 95%+ sustained effectiveness rate in preventing school dropout and violent/delinquent behavior since 2000. The organization's mission is: to develop and implement preventive programs for youth at risk promoting their full potential for success and leadership, through the use of adult and peer mentors, personal and social development workshops for them, their families and teachers, academic support, and safe haven centers, established in their school premises, and meaningful work and service experiences.
