The mission of A Place to Stand is to work with local schools, governments and NGOs to identify and meet critical basic needs for citizens. Ronald McDonald House Charities of Richmond (RMHC Richmond) provides a "home-away-from-home" and support services for families with children receiving medical treatment in the Richmond region. We serve families referred from all area hospitals through our House on Monument Avenue, and a series of in-hospital programs including lunch and activity deliveries, in-hospital Ronald McDonald Family Rooms for sleeping and rest, and the RMHC Sibling Center -- providing hands on activities and arts and crafts for siblings of Richmond's youngest patients while their families visit the hospital.
We believe when a child is sick, a family is sick and we exist so that families can get better together. We support children and families at six area Ronald McDonald Houses®, four Ronald McDonald Family Rooms® and two Ronald McDonald Care Mobiles®. Each night, we keep 181 families close to the care and resources they need. Allowing families to stay close to their child in the hospital supports the child’s health and well-being while saving our families hotel and food costs.
We believe every child deserves a lifelong, permanent connection. We believe that people raise children, not systems. Through this belief, we have created our Promise of Permanency. For every child that enters a Boys & Girls Aid program, we promise to prepare youth for permanency, advocate on their behalf for permanency and help them find resources for their permanency. Permanency means a lifelong commitment between and with an adult and child. By providing each child with a permanent committed adult, they will receive the guidance, stability and emotional support needed to be a successful adult in their community.
