HI is an independent and impartial aid organisation working in situations of poverty and exclusion, conflict and disaster. We work alongside people with disabilities and vulnerable populations, taking action and bearing witness in order to respond to their essential needs, improve their living conditions and promote respect for their dignity and fundamental rights.

Shikamana Trust oversees and manages the Shikamana School in Ukundu, Kenya. The school was founded in May 2002 with the aim of providing education for children, who due to poverty would otherwise be unable to attend school. Over 360 children regularly attend the Shikamana School, ranging in age from 3 to 17. Shikamana does not turn away any child wishing to attend school, meaning that many of the children attend despite their parent of guardian's inability to pay the very moderate schools fees. The school operates a sliding scale of fees according to what the parents can manage. This subsidized school fees mechanism is made possible through the Shikamana Trust and the Cher Charitable Foundation, which help provide necessary funds to run the school properly despite lack of income from school fees.

Our mission is to support girls and women in need. We focus on Kenya by counselling girls together with their schools, provide accessable medical preventive care and support where necessary together with our local partners. We work sustainable by enabling local partners to deliver the prevention, support, care and treatment according to their regulations and what they feel is neccessary. We have no political or religous mission. We work according to the sustainable development goals 1,3,4,5,10 and 17 by the UN. The UN introduced 2015 the sustainable development goals in order to achieve worldwide improvements for people in respect of health, safe environement, democratic rights and education. The former Millenium Development goals, set 2000, could not meet their target in 2015. Millenium Development Goal 5 was a reduction of maternal mortality by 3/4 until 2015. Only a reduction of 44% was achieved. The SDG now aims at a maternal mortality rate of 70/100.00 maternities or less. At present, the maternal mortality rate in Kenya is 400/100.000,(1) meaning 6.400 women dying each year during pregnancy and childbirth. Nearly half of these deaths are attributed to unintended pregnancies and unsafe abortion. 45% of women requesting abortion were younger than 19 years and did not use family planning methods prior to pregnancy (2). Females suffer from poor education and poor information of physiologic processes like menstruation and fertility. Taboos regarding these phenomena are still in place in underpriviledged parts of society in Kenya. These periodpoverty must end. These horrible figures cry for action by simply providing medical assistance able to deal with family planning, ante natal care and experienced gynae services if necessary. Kenya has a well organized health system, free medical care is guaranteed for everyone. Medical care is provided by governemental institutions, private institutions, and faith based organizations. Poor patients are waived if possible in the private sector and treated for free in the faith based organisations.Kenya is establishing a health insurance at present. Contributions are low. Reality unfortunately shows, that even the low contributions are too high, people can not afford the low charges in public hospitals , especially if young and female. There is an considerably equity gap between the social classes and the rural compared to the urban areas (3).The offer of antenatal care and preventive measures like cancer screening are not taken up by marginalized people in dire straits. Young girls need education regarding menstruation, physiologic female cycle, prevention of sexual transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancy. Access to menstral hygiene products is necessary to achieve that girls can go to school, do not suffer lack of education just because they menstruate and can achieve the same level of ecucation as their male classmates. Cherish Others Organisation- Kenya was registered in 2004 as a local non-governmental organization dedicated to uplift the lives of the vulnerable members of the community that include the women, girl child, the youth and the orphans. Cherish Others exists to improve the livelihoods of the resource poor communities through information sharing, education and providing support and care while working with them towards reducing HIV/AIDS prevalence within their environment. The organization contributes to advocacy campaigns on issues affecting the girl child, such as education, girl child rights and adolescent pregnancies. It is also involved in mentoring young girls for professional development by conducting alternative rite of passage ceremonies.

Action10 is a Swedish non-profit, non-religious and non-political membership organisation operating on a voluntarily basis and with charity funding. The vision of Action10 is a world free from extreme poverty, where everyone has access to education, employment, healthcare and social security as well as safe water, food, sanitation and energy. Countries are run by good governance and have sustainable economy. To pursue its vision the mission of Action10 is to be an independent initiative with a broad and flexible mandate to work with stakeholders and partners on projects and programs that address international development. Action10 operates in a sustainable, effective and efficient manner, through its unique strategy SEEDS (Sustainable Effective Efficient Development Strategy) The over-arching value platform of Action10 is that it is the Government at the macro level and the Civil Society Organsisations and the individual extreme poor at the micro level, who are the experts on the actions to be taken, and who have the capacity and knowledge to drive the development processes forward. But that the environment and the infrastructure where they operate hinder the process. The aim of the Action10 approach is therefore to offer support to Governments and to the extreme poor addressing the infrastructural and financial challenges to eradicate extreme poverty. It is the dreams of the extreme poor which is the core of the Action10 approach. Those dreams constitute the vision of each program. The mission is what needs to be done to address these dreams. After having identified the dreams the Action10 approach compiles the challenges that the extreme poor face. Those challenges describe the reasons for why they cannot reach their dreams. We call the compilation of challenges Outcome challenges. Linked to each Outcome challenge is a Progress marker. The purpose of the Progress markers is to enable evaluation planning of the program activities. Thus the Progress markers are well defined indicators which can be easily monitored and assessed. The Outcome Challenges also define the Strategy Map. The Strategy Map is a set of concrete activities that must be addressed to reach the dreams. The concept of Outcome Challenges, Progress Markers and Strategy Map were initially invented by Earl, Carden et al. in 2001 and are components of the Outcome Mapping tool. After the Strategy Map has been defined, a sustainable economy scheme is developed. The Programs are either a social enterprises or components of the national development program. A social enterprise shall generate revenue which covers all program costs, as well as pays company tax in the country of operation. If no revenue can be expected short term, which can be the case with for example basic education or social security programs, then the program is funded as a component of the national authorities development program. A crucial component is also that all partners have strong enough institutional capacity to manage the programs. Each partner are encouraged to annually assess and their own institutional capacity. Action10 is offering tools for the assessment as well as training and coaching on finance administration and accounting. All of the above aspects are, in the Action10 approach, subjected to real-time evaluation planning (EP). Action10 has developed a tool for the EP wich contains five steps. The first measures to what extent the progress markers have been achieved, the second the operational aspects, the third the strategy, the fourth the sustainable economy and the fifth the institutional capacity. The United Nations states that in 2013 1.2 billion people still live in extreme poverty. Extreme poor have been defined by the UN as those people earning an income of less than $ 1.25 per day. UN states that the Millennium Development Goals which were identified and agreed on in year 2000 by 197 heads of states and which were to be achieved in 2015, are far from being reached. The Action10 approach benefits from the lessons learnt from previous international aid programs. Through an analysis of previous aid programs, Ten Actions were identified which, if addressed thoroughly in all development programs, are expected to reduce and eventually eradicate extreme poverty. All the Ten actions are thoroughly captured in all Action10 activities. Our Ten Actions are based on these 10 principles; 1. Needs driven program 2. Equal partnership 3.
