The American Red Cross prevents and alleviates human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors. The American Red Cross, through its strong network of volunteers, donors and partners, is always there in times of need. We aspire to turn compassion into action so that all people affected by disaster across the country and around the world receive care, shelter and hope; our communities are ready and prepared for disasters; everyone in our country has access to safe, lifesaving blood and blood products; all members of our armed services and their families find support and comfort whenever needed; and in an emergency, there are always trained individuals nearby, ready to use their Red Cross skills to save lives. The American Red Cross' fundamental principles are: Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Voluntary Service, Unity, and Universality. Our motto, "You Have the Power to Save a Life" is built upon and reflects such these values.
The mission of the American Diabetes Association (the Association) is to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes. Diabetes is a disease in which the body does not produce or properly use insulin. Insulin is a hormone that is needed to convert sugar, starches and other food into energy needed for daily life. The cause of diabetes continues to elude the medical community, although research has shown that both genetics and environmental factors such as obesity and lack of exercise appear to play roles.

African Mission is a UK registered charity (No: 1099264) whose aim is to fight disease and poverty in Africa by supporting education and medical projects. We began in 2003 by supporting the work of Dr Ray Towey MB ChB FRCA who has dedicated his life to the improvement of health care for the poor in Africa. Dr Towey’s special interest is to provide sustainable and affordable intensive care to the poorest patients. After a visit to Zimbabwe in 2010, we began supporting a large mission based in rural Zimbabwe called Fatima Mission. The majority of those living within its boundaries are poor subsistence farmers. The mission is run by a Roman Catholic order of Franciscans priests known as The Order of Friars Minor Capuchin or Capuchins for short. In 2011 African Mission helped establish an educational project for young people with special needs. They live at the project during term time and attend a nearby school. The school is the only school in the province offering a specific education for special needs children. In addition to their academic education they also learn skills to help them live and prosper with their disabilities. The number of young people benefitting from the project has grown from six in 2011 to 21 this year. Of these 21 young people; 10 are deaf and mute, 2 are completely blind, 3 suffer from Myopia (short-sightedness), 3 have Down Syndrome and 2 are physically handicapped (one of whom has also difficulty in speaking) and 1 is visually impaired.
