Prevention First was incorporated in 1967 as the Central Jersey council on alcoholism. Over the years, the focus changed to the prevention of alcohol abuse and expanded to include other drugs and other forms of abuse (dating/relationship abuse, gang violence and bullying). To best reflect what the agency does and emphasize its importance, the name was ultimately changed to Prevention First. In 2013, we became an affiliate of preferred behavioral health group. Prevention First’s services are targeted to those in grades K–12 and provided during and after school by a staff of professional educators who are dedicated to the success of their students. Programs are proven, age-specific and include the tools, skills and support necessary for students to develop and maintain healthy, abuse-free relationships and lives. In addition, Prevention First educates parents, caregivers, businesses, law enforcement and community groups, provides on-site and online training for school personnel, conferences and workshops for prevention professionals and programs implemented through community outreach and the prevention coalition of Monmouth county.

The IPS is an independent charity with over 2,400 members dedicated to preventing infections in healthcare settings. By providing support, education, and advocacy, we aim to make treatment and care safer for all, ensuring that no one is harmed by a preventable infection.

PEI Kids’ mission is to promote and maintain a safe environment for all children. PEI Kids works with the child, family and caregiver to provide prevention, intervention and advocacy programs relating to personal safety, sexual abuse and the overall well-being of the child.

Discovery House is a second stage shelter established to address the social issue of family violence in Calgary. We provide long-term shelter, intervention, education and professional counselling for families who are victims of abuse. Our goal is that families have an increased capacity and support for living a safe and harmonious life in the community. We achieve this by restoring self-esteem, teaching strategies for personal safety, and developing problem-solving skills with our residential and outreach clients.

The Clearfield – Jefferson Suicide Prevention Team is dedicated to achieve our Mission to reduce the occurrence of suicide within our two county areas. The Team wants to achieve our Mission by promoting awareness and prevention by offering programs to the community at large. We want to be able to provide prevention, intervention, and postvention trainings to any and all groups from the faith based community to the business community. The Team wants to make suicide a topic we can freely talk about and not be in fear of. We want everyone to learn how to identify the person who may be suicidal and then know what to say to get them the help they so desperately need.
