Artists in Healthcare, Manitoba (AIHM)believes that music and the arts are essential for a healthy life. We have a vision to integrate the arts, in all their forms to healthcare to benefit patients, families and staff. Research demonstrates that healing occurs best when the whole person; body, mind and spirit is engaged. Patients say the music provides an oasis from stress and anxiety, as evidenced by comments such as: " I just received a cancer diagnosis, but for the 10 minutes I was sitting here, listening to you play, I forgot." Our programming promotes healing and preventative health by reducing stress in chemotherapy treatment, palliative care, dialysis, geriatric rehab, and on units and waiting areas throughout the hospitals. We believe the universal language of art speaks powerfully in healthcare settings, and transforms the environment in unique and healing ways.
Pain BC is a non-profit society made up of health care practitioners, people in pain, and others with a shared passion for easing the burden of pain in British Columbia. Pain BC recognizes that nothing affects our well being more than pain; whether living with a chronic condition (like arthritis, heart disease, or cancer), suffering with an illness like fibromyalgia or Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, or recovering from injury or surgery, persistent pain is the common element with the single greatest impact on quality of life. Your donation will help ease the burden of chronic pain in BC by supporting Pain BC's educational, outreach, and advocacy initiatives. Thank you for helping us to provide much-needed hope and support to the over 400,000 British Columbians living with chronic pain.
Nakai Theatre, based in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, Canada, is a non-profit professional theatre company dedicated to helping local playwrights get their plays to the stage. We offer a 24hr Playwriting Competition to get them started; a Homegrown Theatre Festival to help them produce selections of their plays; script development workshops and dramaturgy; and the opportunity to present their work at our national and international Pivot Theatre Festival. Finally, we take the most promising scripts and mount full productions. Many of our productions deal with significant social and health issues in Northern Canada: Alzheimer's disease, homelessness, poverty, alcohol addiction and cancer. In our 32 year history (1979 to 2011) we have brought over 50 Yukon scripts to the stage. Nakai Theatre is a member of the Professional Association of Canadian Theatres, and is supported by the Canada Council for the Arts. We are a registered charity.
The Giving Garden Foundation provides financial assistance to cancer patients who reside in either Gloucester or Mathews County, Virginia. Such assistance may be for rents, mortgages, prescriptions, utilities, fuel, groceries and other expenses relating to treatment such as lodging. Living in a rural area often means limited resources which is what led our founders to bridge the gap between resources that exist and fulfilling the unmet needs of patients. In addition to providing financial assistance, we have built an online database of other local, state and national resources which are searchable to the public through our website. When we receive assistance requests from patients outside of our financial service area, we work with those individuals one-on-one to find resources for them in their respective locality. People should not have to worry about keeping their lights on, food on their table or a roof over their head while facing the battle of their lives.
The mission of Hope and Belief Charitable Organization is to provide targeted assistance to children from Ukraine who are suffering from serious or incurable diseases. Assistance is provided to the parents of such children in the form of necessary medicines for the child, payment for hospitalization or medical equipment. Today, the organization's activities are aimed at helping children suffering from epilepsy, insulin-dependent diabetes, oncological diseases and diseases of the visual organs. Within the framework of the organization's work, we directly contact the child's parents (guardians), check the documents provided, assess the possibilities of our help and conduct fundraising activities to raise funds for the child's treatment. Most of our projects describe a specific case of a child's disease and are aimed at helping a particular child. An important feature of our activity is the verification of the financial status of the family whose application for support we are considering. If the Board of Directors of the organization decides to support the child's treatment, the assistance is provided on a long-term basis and is subject to mandatory agreement with the attending physician. We support only those medical needs that are not provided free of charge at the expense of the Ukrainian state. The Foundation's programs have been running for years. Some programs, such as help for children with cancer, have been carried out by the organization since its establishment. Our organization regularly reviews a variety of serious childhood illnesses for systemic problems with funding by government agencies. The Foundation's new programs are aimed at eliminating the problems of financing children's treatment in certain medical areas. This work involves identifying basic treatment needs and engaging in dialogue with medical professionals and parents who are experiencing problems with their children's care. At least 45% of all donations to the organization come from private donors. In addition, our organization has projects carried out jointly with banks, insurance companies and other large Ukrainian organizations.
