VIETNAM EDUCATION SOCIETY

The Vietnam Education Society was established in 2005 to raise funds to cover the cost of construction for new preschools and primary schools in rural Vietnam. Local authorities manage and operate the facilities, which are inspected by VES and our partner, East Meets West, on a regular basis. VES opened its first school in Vietnam in June 2007, a ten room school that serves close to 400 students in the small community of Cat Ne, Thai Nguyen Province, Vietnam. A multipurpose room and early childhood development centre were added to the school. Since that time, VES has built three other schools and is currently (Spring 2013) working on plans for the fifth facility. VES also works with the Pacific Links Foundation, an organization dedicated to helping stop human trafficking along the border regions in Vietnam. VES provides 40 scholarships for at risk girls and sponsors a summer camp to provide these girls with support and life skills

SEED Kenya (Students for Education, Empowerment and Development)

SEED invests in education by providing scholarships to around 100 high school and university students. Scholarships allow otherwise disempowered students to access much more than an education. Schools in Kenya provide students with food, health, counselling and community support. They allow students to evade tasks of subsistence and live out their childhood. Most importantly, education becomes a tool to combat poverty, allowing children to gather skills, pursue their dreams, and live up to their human potential. Scholarships cover costs for students' school fees, which pay for lunch fees, textbooks, and extra teaching. Many students are unable to afford these school fees, thus diminishing the likelihood of them completing their education. SEED also operates a primary school in Kibera slum, Nairobi, Kenya called SEED Junior Academy. SJA provides an education and lunch to around 60 children who would otherwise not be in school due to a lack of public education in the slum.

Best Medicine Rep

Best Medicine Rep is a nonprofit professional theater company that specialize in new comedies. It is dedicated to the artistic, education, and cultural development of Gaithersburg and Montgomery Village. Why are we here? To entertain. To bring joy. To foster community and learning through shared laughter. To lighten our shared burden of existence for a short while. Why comedy? Broadly defined and properly presented, comedy encompasses all of human experience. It can make us laugh and make us cry. It can bring joy and it can bring anger. It makes us think and makes us forget. It exalts and ridicules. It can divert, and it can focus. Comedy levels life’s playing field. Why theater? Story is that which gives comedy context. It is what allows empathy and purpose. Performed stories (theater) provide for the communal experience, the shared joy of laughter that we seek to achieve. Theater brings a community together, eliciting pride and engagement, a sense of ownership and cooperation. We believe that the comic theater is the cure for what ails us.

Stewart Musical Productions LTD

Monumental Theatre Company was founded in 2015 from Stewart Musical Productions, LTD. Stewart Musical Productions was previously known as Limelight Theatre and was founded by Jan Stewart in 2009. The business was revived in 2015 by Michael Windsor, Jimmy Mavrikes and Beth Amann. As a company, we are committed to fostering new work and providing platforms for emerging writers and local artists. Monumental was founded by three members of the oft-degraded “millennial generation;” we hope to contribute positively to, or bolster the reputation of, our generation by developing works for millennials by millennials. Twenty-somethings these days are often accused of being lazy and tethered to technology; we will strive to remind our accusers and ourselves that we are all connected on a basic human level. Great art should be relatable across generations, and we want to help our peers contribute to that cannon. Monumental Theatre Company is committed to presenting thought-provoking, emotionally-driven theatrical material; championing new work; and encouraging audiences of all ages to engage with the millennial generation’s emerging artistic voice. Monumental is defined as “great in importance, extent or size;” it is a tall-order for a young company, but it is a bar we are determined to meet. We hope to continue to grow with and thrive in the D.C. community by presenting significant works that speak to a wide variety of theatre-goes. Our youth as a company leaves us uniquely positioned to promote a love of fine arts in the next generation; our enthusiasm for the work and writing of our peers lends itself to that goal.

Merrimack Repertory Theatre

Founded in 1979, MRT primarily serves the Merrimack Valley – a region of northeast Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire located about 45 minutes from Boston – where it is the only professional theatre. It also draws audiences from the greater Boston area (where it is one of three LORT Theatres), New England, and beyond. Merrimack Repertory Theatre has become known for its unwavering commitment to high production standards and selection of mostly regional and world premieres. This tradition has been embraced by artistic director Sean Daniels, who continues to develop MRT as a leader of new play production in the country. MRT attracts leading professional playwrights, directors, actors and designers from around the country, who share the company's commitment and welcome the opportunity to make MRT one of their theatrical homes. During the 2016-17 Season, the intimate 279-seat theatre will feature seven vibrant plays and musicals about who we are as a people, a country, and New Englanders, that “advance the cause of human understanding through the art of theatre." The lineup includes four world premieres, and three plays that explore New England themes. The Theatre has mounted over 200 productions in its 37-year history, including 23 world premieres and 40 regional premieres. MRT is governed by a 30-member Board of Trustees and receives advisory assistance from a Board of Overseers. Both boards are composed of community leaders, entrepreneurs, and business leaders.

New York Classical Theatre, Inc.

New York Classical Theatre’s mission is to reinvigorate and create audiences for the theatre by presenting free productions of popular classics and forgotten masterpieces that pop up in non-traditional public spaces throughout the five boroughs. We are the only all-free professional theatre in New York City. Our free productions currently pop up outdoors in Central Park, The Battery, Battery Park City Parks, Prospect Park and Brooklyn Bridge Park and indoors in Brookfield Place and One Liberty Plaza. New York Classical’s hallmark is Panoramic Theatre, a style created by Founding Artistic Director, Stephen Burdman, to build a unique relationship between the actor, audience and venue. Scripts are adapted to fully embrace each performance space and through the influence of 19th century staging and single camera cinema techniques, the audience is placed at the center of the action of the play, giving them access to a deeply immersive theatrical experience. Our outdoor productions in expansive public locations push Panoramic Theatre further. At each performance, the audience follows the actors from place to place as the plot unfolds from scene to scene, following the journey of the characters. Using different areas to stage specific scenes opens up endless creative possibilities for performers and our audience. By utilizing large physical environments as our playing arenas, audiences literally inhabit the world of the play and become active participants in the drama unfolding around them. By offering our Off-Broadway performances for free, we ensure that all people, regardless of their economic, ethnic or educational background have access to the highest quality professional theatre. Our open rehearsals in public venues also allow our audience to observe the evolution of a production while demystifying the language and poetry of classical theatre. We firmly believe that the themes of the classics remain relevant to the lives of all New Yorkers today. Through the lens of classical theatre, we come to better understand human nature and our role in contemporary life. As a result, our free performances build new and future audiences for live theatre by attracting many underserved and non-traditional spectators.
