The Sheep River Health Trust is responsive, adaptable and accountable volunteer community organization which exists to achieve these goals in support of healthcare in our community. We support the provision of quality healthcare services, programs and equipment in our communities. We contribute to community health promotion through education and supporting preventative programming. We engender public confidence through responsible governance, with strategic transparent and achievable operational plans.
Our objectives are: To promote mental and physical health by delivering programs and services to people marginalized by factors such as isolation, language, and other risk factors. To provide early stimulation programs for pre-school children. To operate a drop-in-daycare (Halte Garderie). To offer programs to prevent isolation, frailty and other conditions associated with aging. To disseminate information and encourage and facilitate the use of existing resources and services offered by other agencies and institutions.
We fulfill this mission by: Providing food and other basic amenities to persons in need. Establishing, operating and maintaining Orphanages, Elementary and High Schools, and Training facilities for persons in need. Improving the quality of drinking water by constructing wells and water treatment, irrigation and sewage treatment systems. Developing and promoting public health by establishing, operating and maintaining Medical Clinics, for the purpose of educating and instructing the public on the prevention of, and curative measures for health problems.
Typically ANIQUEM patients are very poor – CAFA programmes provide support Including: CAFA transport program provides transport (bus fare and meal) for patient and caregiver to come to clinic on regular basis without which many patients could not afford to visit the clinic at all CAFA Recreation program provides 2 3-day camps per year for up to 40 burn survivors providing friendly camp surroundings where the children can relax 'and just be kids'. CAFA Surgery provides for individual surgery support for identified cases. Surgery takes place at clinics in Lima. CAFA recently collaborated with ANIQUEM and INTERPLAST on a 10 day campaign corrective surgery campaign at a hospital near Lima. Eighteen ANIQUEM patients were treated with all transport and accommodation funded by CAFA. It is a major centre for Orthopedic Trauma Surgery in southern Manitoba and a hub for Kidney Health services for the province of Manitoba. We are the people who are here, day or night, 24/7, to answer the calls from those who are reaching out for help. Callers may have simple questions. Or they may be in crisis. Either way, with 181 volunteers answering nearly 40,000 calls a year, we provide an integral, important and vital service in the community. At any given time of day or night, people out there require our help. Whether they’re depressed, lonely, overwhelmed or so distraught they’re contemplating suicide, they will find a supportive and caring person at our end of the line. People of all ages, races, genders and social-economic groups call our confidential service. Patient, understanding and giving, Distress Centre volunteers are trained to listen, talk through concerns or provide community resource information. In other words, whatever is needed, our volunteers are there. What else do we do? We provide training for other community groups. Our renowned trainers provide training on diverse topics.
Colorectal cancer is currently the second leading cause of cancer death overall for men and women in Canada. Approximately 22 500 people will be diagnosed with colorectal cancer this year and sadly 9 100 will die of the disease. Despite these shocking numbers, the disease is still not well known or well understood. Current scientific literature indicates that up to 90% or more of colorectal cancer can be successfully treated or prevented through early detection and removal of pre-cancerous polyps and through diet and regular exercise.

Nova Scotia-Gambia Association is a non-profit organization developed and supported by Nova Scotians working together with Canadians and Gambians for the welfare of youth in West Africa. NSGA is delivering nation-wide school-based peer health educaion programs focusing on healthy relationships, HIV/AIDS prevention, and other diseases such as malaria and tuberculosis. In the last four years, NSGA's programs have reached more than 100,000 students in over 200 schools; and, as well, 1,000 villages throughout The Gambia.
