Stichting Life Skills Nederland

At Life Skills we aim at helping the youth (10-18 year-olds) in Amsterdam South-East in the development of life skills, self-love, confidence and citizenship education. So that they have the tools to succeed in society and are able to take control of their lives for a sustainable and healthy future. We work on this by providing workshops and training, fieldtrips and homework and study guidence/counseling. Every child has the right to fair education en development. However, we know that there is also inequality in education. This is especially the case in neighborhoods where social, cultural and economic capital is minimal, such as Amsterdam South-East. In order to offer students from disadvantaged neighborhoods equal opportunities, extra education is being used, under the heading of tutoring or homework guidance. But there's more to it. The children that come to Life Skills grow up in a non-Western environment. An environment that often does not match the norms and values of Western society. When they finish their education and manifest themselves in society, there will be a cultural gap. What is missing are the skills and knowledge about the ins and outs of Western culture and Dutch society. They would end up in a culture shock, with mutual incomprehension and uncertainty. At Life Skills we want to help fill in this gap so that the youth from Amsterdam South-East as all the Life Skills it needs to succeed in life. Review "I found learning for my own good very difficult, but suddenly I was able to do my very best when helping others. In the end I also obtained my high school diploma. I have now been working at the Study House for three years and have been a student there for six years. I really enjoy working here and guiding other students in their schoolwork. I know that what is a small effort for me can mean a lot to the student. I also get a lot of energy from it and it still gives me self-confidence. Working at the Study House has made me realize that I really enjoy helping others. If it is up to me, I would like to continue working at the Study House for years to come!", Rabdaah Rehman. Stichting Heifer Nederland

Heifer is on a mission to end hunger and poverty in a sustainable way by investing in agriculture and supporting small-scale farmers to earn a sustainable living income and better integrate rural women, youth and indigenous populations into more inclusive value chains. To achieve our goals, we operate in the mentioned 19 countries across four continents through locally staffed and led offices. HNL is part of the global Heifer International network and operates as Heifer's gateway to Europe. HNL focusses on building partnerships and raising funds from European donors to support local initiatives, such as this proposed project in Bangladesh. While the local Heifer team in Bangladesh manages project design and implementation, HNL is responsible for mobilizing and securing funding partners and managing donor relationships after a grant has been approved. As such, HNL also oversees coordination with donors' grant preferences. Grants and donations that HNL receives for specific projects such as this one, are transferred one-on-one to the relevant Heifer office in the country of project implementation, in this case Bangladesh. Empowering women is one of the cornerstones in Heifer's approach. Since 1999 HNL has raised funds that supported 109266 female farmers. In FY 2024, HNL has supported 15568 female farmers. Heifer started working in Bangladesh in 2006, and to date have supported more than 139000 families across 6 districts in the northern part of the country.
